Just got a call from a customer and he was complaining about mechanical voltage regs burning out or going to full charge with his alternator.

Anyone know the AC Delco part number for a electronic Regulator that will direct wire into his 4 wire harness?  or what wires he won't need to use?

Thanks Honorable Chevy Wizards

How about a 1 wire alt!

The old Delco number was a D635. It was a transistor regulator that had an aluminum body/cover that looked like a heat sink.  I think D636 was the same thing. If you go to the your FLAPS and compare the weight of replacement ones I think you will find that most of the current replacement regs are a big case like the original but have a few transistors and weigh a fraction of the old reg.
You could also upgrade to an internally regulated alt. Hook the big red wire to the stud, on the new alt; jump the red wire to the terminal farthest away from the stud; and figure out which wire on the reg is turned on by the key. That wire goes to the remaining terminal on the new alt. Use one of the harness extender kits to get the proper terminal cover/retainer for the new alt.
If you use a one wire the idiot light doesn't work.
