trans question for a friend

A rodding friend of mine wanted me to ask on here about a trans swap. He has a '46 Ford p.u. with '87 Chrysler 5th Ave front clip. It has the A904 trans with hydraulic lockup and he would like to change to an A999 trans with electric lockup. He tows a teardrop trailer with itm and would like to be able to lock out the overdrive till he wants it. His main question is one of length, what A999 would fit without a driveshaft alteration? ( doesn't seem like that big of a thing to alter driveshaft lenght, but he wanted me to ask. Also if it is a cable drive for the speedo too
I have tried to get Fred to join the forum for a long time. He would be a real asset; in 2003 he attended ALL the NSRA events in his truck that was "finished" a week before the first event, left in a snowstorm from Ontario Canada and didn't return home for weeks. Maybe I'll tell him if he wants to know the answer to his question he'll have to join us!
