Quote from: 58 Yeoman on October 06, 2024, 10:16:34 PMTony, I had heard bad things about CVT's, but then we bought a used 2016 Subaru Forester with one.  It took me a while to get used to the engine revving so high when you kick it down, but other than that, it doesn't bother me.  It's got about 97,000 on it now with no problems.

Now I've probably jinxed myself.

  Jinxed?

Phil: We bought this 2013 Civic new, it has 140k miles on it now. This 5 speed automatic actually has a drain plug on it. I change engine oil and transmission oil at 5k miles. The trans only drops 2.6 qts of the DW-1 atf..  I figure its a good practice to drop the atf with engine oil?

Toyota a few years ago came out with a CVT that has a gear driven 1st gear, the shift to 2nd is then on the CVT belt drive. I have little knowledge on that transmission, I just did some reading on it.

A friend in Wisconsin has a Subaru 2022 model, he loves the AWD. He says the newer CVT drives much better with the fake shift points.  Seems to me its like an electric car with fake engine sounds while driving?

Trans repair cost should be a primary consideration in any modern vehicle purchase IMHO. Three or five times the value of the vehicle is nonsense. We have been trapped.

The GT works again now. Used to run at 190°, period. With new fans both at full song it runs 225+ if not moving.

I helped my buddy Hooley run the "Okie Twister" Henry J yesterday at the American Hot Rod Reunion.  A great day but lots of work for old guys. He made it to the final round but red lighted by .015 seconds I believe.  A great day.

Yesterday we went down to Townsend (population 2000) southwest of helena for their Fall Fest.  325 cars was the official count and not to long after I got there, I saw this car driving in.  Many of you probably remember it from lots of magazine coverage.  The young guy that brought it said he had been watching it since he was a kid.  A couple of months ago, his brother called him up and said that car he had always talked about was on Bring a trailer.  So he managed to get it, and it now lives just east of me. Sorry I cannot get my picture to load, so sent you all to the web page of the car,

I think I remember that car or another one like it built maybe by Summit.  The one I remember was a different color scheme, maybe blue and yellow.

I'm still stripping paint off the Jimmy. One quarter, one fender left. Hoping gate gets blasted. I imagine the reflective lettering has to come off first.

The interesting today thing is I saw the resultant carnage of nitrous on cast pistons, LS style. Wow. That was innerestin'. I was grinning because if you're gonna do something... do the hell out of it. :)

Quote from: enjenjo on October 03, 2024, 04:36:21 PMI have had several batteries rebuilt by Battery Wholesale. So far I have not had any of them fail with some of them over four years old.

A few years ago, I bought my wife a Ryobi leaf blower with 18V battery.  She tried using it yesterday, and the battery was dead.  Home Depot wants $98 for a new battery, Amazon around $60. A guy on Market Place advertised a Ryobi drill, charger and three batteries for $45.  Cheap deal.  Now she has two chargers, three batteries and an extra drill.

Stopped by the VA today in between our appointments and told the tech I had trouble changing the wax guards this morning while cleaning the hearing aids. These new aids from this year have weird guards that are hard to change.  I asked about the 'new' upgrade to use the 'old' style wax guards, and she said sure, and she changed them right then and there. Cool.

Then I went to my appointment with a non-VA audiologist to have my ears checked to see if the Army is responsible for my hearing loss.  After all the tests, she said they are, but couldn't guarentee  that they would take full responsibility for it.  It'll take at least three months to find out.

The glove box came in for the Corvair yesterday, so I'll install that tomorrow.  Along with those two expensive little rubber bumpers.

I remember spending probably 15 or 20 minutes once at the Des Moines Goodguys show, looking over the Quadradeuce at the Rad Rods by Troy display. Fascinating work.

I was under the impression that Battery Wholesale  was a national chain. They only serve Michigan Ohio and Indiana.

I googled and there are several in the Phoenix area.

Drove the GT to work yesterday. On the way home, it didn't get over 210°. That commute took 75 minutes Monday and 45 Tuesday.

If you have a house with an attic..  We often store stuff there. ?

In this house we bought in late August I have found in the attic:

Galvanised fence pipe about 2 feet long (2 of them)
Spare tire threaded rod with lock
7 empty boxes of Kenwood stereo equip.
Various wood trim molding bits
Fiberglass corrugated green material sheets (6 of them) 2 feet long
8 foot long aluminum framed with fiberglas panel of unknown use?

The spare tire holder puzzles me the most, about being in the attic?

The spare tire carrier reminds me of my 74 Ford pickup. It came with the blue lock protector from Ford.
