I had installed a Holley Sniper fuel injection system on the old truck last winter but I had never turned the key until today.  I was surprised that nearly as soon as I turned the key, it fired, and ran smoothly.  The only problem so far is that the Holley computer controls the electric fan, and it is not working.  I will look into that tomorrow.  My guess is that I did connect something correctly.  Now I am anxious to drive it.  The throttle response is better than the carburetor.  Updates to follow.

KB I found a taper from our tire balance machine that fit the sleeves well without much hanging outside the bore . Had to machine a bushing to use it on the lathe bell center . Made a cutter and mounted it in a boring bar mounted at right angle to the ways , I had a sample sleeve to go from so mounted it in the 4 jaw with the tire machine bell center at the other end and positioned the tool in the groove to match the diameter . Spun the lathe by hand and fed the cutter in the required amount . I think I did 4 sleeves in just over an hour . Its funny how much time you can spend making the tooling to do a small job .

Hi, me again. I haven't been here much lately due to "life" things my wife got bad news back in January and recently had major surgery and so far it's all been good news. She is recovering remarkably well and quickly. We can finally get back to a near normal life, whatever that may be.
On the car front I FINALLY got my '46 Chevy back on the road. Seems to run OK but I have a strange thing going on. The water temp will spike for a short time then drop back to the 180° t stat I have in it. I have replaced the stat and no change. I burped it, twice, with no change, got quite a bit of air out though. It goes to about 210° then drops back to 180 although it has gone as high as 224. Should it try burping it again? I ran it about a half hour today and wasn't seeing any air by then, but the temp went to 212.  Any ideas or suggestions?

Road trip to Winslow Arizona :  Standing on the Corner visit.  We looked around.  Stepped in a couple tourist businesses.

The Ford F1 truck was in raw metal. A little bit of small metal flake on it with clear coat.  The Airstream was an oldie. The model was a Caravel, which the name  is still in use.

A sign on the Ford said it was a daily driver. From the slight gasoline smell, I think it is. You middle aged guys know that gas smell on olde vehicles.

Phat46, I would double check the temps with an infrared temp gun to verify what you are seeing. Years ago I had a friend who had the temp sensor I believe on the right side of the intake and the gauge went nuts. What I don't know is if the location had anything to do with it or he used too much teflon on the sender.

Cool pix Tony.  When I was growing up in the 50's,  a guy in our town ground off all the paint on his Ford PU, don't remember the year.  I couldn't look at it while I delivered the papers, when it was sunny.  This being Illinois, it soon rained and the truck lost all its luster.  He never did paint it.

Phil, that would be the only legit way to advertise a car for sale as "no bondo" which gets thrown around a lot.

Roof on the 68 cab at work was found to be mercifully decent. For once in a great while, I only paved spots. Ironing out the cab rear panel was a snap with the fancy puller. Roof was down to pinholes, and above back window, when I stopped to visit with 56 guy til quitting time. It goes home tomorrow but I am hitched to the bodywork for life, he made that clear.

I have nothing to report but a calm swell day and hope all you Dads got the treat of being such today. Nearby (to home) highway expansion has archaeologists finding six thousand year old spear heads and buildings. Thats cool! The expansion work blows a hole in my 455 usage path. Cars just aren't fun anymore. I should say the road. Repairing antiques is a living, glad to have that and I find ancient history fascinating. Sucks trying to fix my junk though. I feared this.

Matt, from what some of the older locals told me, the guy that ground the paint off his PU was a little off level.  I guess he just wanted something to do.

Something John (WZ Junk) posted about remembering the time before cell phones , got me thinking in the middle of the nite.

I do remember the time before cell phones. I checked. In the last 3.5 weeks I have received 47 calls on my cell phone(only phone I have). Only 3 calls were real, all others were spam. 2 calls from my wife, the 3rd from a buddy I have known since high school about transmissions. I do not answer the phone any more, unless the incoming number is in my contacts.

The spam text messages I receive is another story.  LOL

Hey! I resemble that remark.  :lol: Once that cat got started, lead poisoning probably did the rest.  ;)

IDJ your comment about no bondo when selling is right on the mark . I sold a 49 anglia over 10 years ago and it was stripped to bare metal. Had I painted it some would have not liked the color or wondered what was under the paint . The guy that bought it was a body man and appreciated the fact that it was bare metal . There legitimately was no rust repair required and the bare metal made that evident .  8)

Then, on the other hand, I always like to sell cars with clean engines, as I keep all mine fairly clean.  I was selling one one time, and the guy looking at it claimed I cleaned the engine to hide any oil leaks.  He didn't get the car.

in the late 1980s I owned a Corvair powered sand rail. I power warshed the engine and trans as it was a mess. The engine did not leak much, I had resealed several areas prior to the power warsh.  The guy that bought the buggy commented like 5 times how clean it was. I offered to let him drive the buggy up our cul de sac as it was a long cul de sac.  Nope, no need to drive it he said.

About 2 weeks later he called. The buggy engine quit. He asked me why. I told him I had no idea what he had been doing with the buggy. I reminded him he refused the test drive.
