I am working on a 65 Buick gas tank . It's out for cleaning at this time. I took the sender out and it is gummed up just like the tank. I checked it with an ohm meter and it reads correctly, but I would like to clean it up. Any ideas? I was thinking lacquer thinner. Acetone? Alcohol?

I use thinner because we all have called it varnish. If that's true, wouldn't paint remover work? The machine shop has a drum of real powerful paint stripper that we use for the alum. vat. It will clean up a varnished carb in short order.

I cleanded a lot of black goo out of the Ranger tank with lacquer thinner.  Nothing else would work.

I cleaned it with Acetone, but now it doesn't work reliably. :'( So I ordered a new one. I had a hard time finding someone who had it in stock. I may take the old one apart to see what is causing the intermittent operation. If I break it I have a backup. ;D
