It has to be worth more than the Batmobile! The batmobile had a following but the Hirohita merc is just so much of the history of customs. I guess it comes down to audience , the batmobile appealed to more through its tv culture following whereas the Hirohita has an actual history with real people involved . The average person would value the batmobile more but the car guys would appreciate the historical significance of the Hirohita car . I am interested to see what it sells for .

Theres more than one signed Batmobile last I knew. Apples to oranges anyway. I digs me some 66 Batmobile though. Have a nice die cast version stashed. And I met a real one once upon a time shortly after getting my job.

Plus a 10% buyers fee and maybe a sellers fee also.

I gotta believe that the bubble will burst someday and people will start losing money.  I have thought this for some time and it has not happened yet.  To me the auctions are just one rich guy trying to take advantage of another rich guy.

I can think of no other place where seperatism is so blatant. Well except for when Sotheby's auctions antiquities. Lord have mercy.

Flap gums as I may... I have all due respect plus what runneth over... for the Hirohata Merc. As par however, my take is almost wholly based on appearance. Specifically use of color. Two shades within one color hue family works like gangbusters and I puzzle why I just... NEVER see that. Granted, its been done before and since, and even by Mercury (on some older uplevel Mountaineers), and I don't go to shows or watch TV... but where are the rods copying that not so subtle but eye pleasing similar color combo concept?

Anybody get my drift and have an example? Corrected is how I am accustomed to standing so no worries.  :)

Got a second layout second draft plain line drawing did on the... oh crap what to call it... IDJ automotive family portrait thing. Some resemblances better than others. Drawing a line of cars parked abreast is not as hard as I thought. Roof lines are every bit as hard and more. I'm doing OK with proportions on rows of cars but I may need to leave Grape out of it because making it look like its sitting between the flanking two parked rows... that got worse trying to fix it.

It is wierd. Have not looked at a single reference image for this endeavor yet but freehanding persevereth thus far. I couldn't not color my eldest, same-age-as-me ex-ride, I wanted to color!  After sketching on it most nites this week. Heres your sample bite, below.

Dragula brought $473,000. The estimates were 50-70 grand. The website lists the Merc at 2.145. I believe that includes the buyers fees.

CK, you know I will. Its a fun challenge. If it goes satisfactorily... one day I may try a peopled one. Or a portrait, to check for aptitude. If I have any for that, its unbeknownst to me as of yet.  :blank:

You know when your car's price is up there with Model T production numbers... man you are in a high-cotton zone. :)

All I am left wondering is will the Merc have the same fate as all the nine foot skeletons. Perpetually hidden, doomed to never feel the sun or splash another insect. Hope it has a happy car life of great honor. The dust mop and mothball sentence beats tarp and boxes anyday. Thats what Grape says although its kinda muffled coming through half a ton of snow.

If the cars at auction continue to bring these high prices, it may come to a time when a rich guy can not afford a classic car. :)

The garage clean up I am doing has taken a  month so far. My shop was a total mess, and a lot of things were temporarily repaired good enough to use but not permanently. So I have rebuilt the sand blast cabinet, and the parts washer. Built a soaker tub for transmission parts, Set up a small Evaporust tank, and got a start on organizing my transmission parts. I have sold nearly two tons of scrap iron, and am well on my way to the third.

I have also custom built a T5 transmission with a hydraulic clutch, and rebuilt a portable air compressor.

That one is too fresh. None of the parts for that are in the garage :)

I'll be helping my 5 year older brother replace his water heater today. We installed that 17 years ago, and it's leaking. Funny, he already has it removed and lying on the basement floor, but can't install a new one.

My 7 yr older than me brother would do the same thing. And: "F up" something removing it , when he should not even be allowed to hold the tools or the light for someone else doing the work. Altho that may be a bit harsh, my brother could hold the light , I guess.
