Most aftermarket gauges are 2 1/16" diameter. Why pray tell. It's not an even measurement in Imperial, or Metric. Or is it that way because of the same reason the space shuttle solid rocket boosters are not larger in diameter?

The story I heard has absolutely no basis but I heard someone was using war surplus aircraft gauges and decided to go in the gauge business. They just used measurments from their old gauges so they didn't have to diddle with hole sizes.
