Without going into too much detail on how I know, meat plants are extremely difficult environments given the transmissibility of this virus. There's a huge volume of hand work, because animals vary too much to just program robots to do the work. The plants don't have a lot of the large machines which push workers apart in a lot of factories. Industrial Engineers decided how much space people need to do their jobs, and that's how far apart people stand.

So you can't just tell people to stand farther apart. You also can't just close the plants. People have to eat. You can't just stockpile the animals forever, either. They only stay in market condition for so long.

So it's a difficult problem to solve.

Here in AZ...  I read Costco was going to require all customers to wear masks in most of their stores.  Well that must have meant ALL of them.  After all these weeks , now Costco says everybody will wear masks.  Sorry: it seems stupid to me.  Should have been that way for weeks, if needed.  Most of AZ the covid numbers do not show this is needed. At least numbers I see and hear

2nd item:  AZ governor announced that we have at least 2 more weeks of full lock down.  Although I hear in a week certain businesses will be allowed to reopen at reduced levels.  I guess the businesses will only lose a little bit of money? I have noticed traffic has been increasing the last 2 weeks. people are tired of waiting. Broke. need to work.

3rd item:  A business owner in Fountain Hills AZ has been cited with violation of the governors orders on business activity,  customers hanging around, etc.  From what I read and heard on this, she was skirting the edges of the law with some tables and chairs in the area of her business , but not on her property. Her inside tables and chairs were stacked away..  She claims she can not control what customers do after they pick up the food to go.

There were multiple complaints about this from middle of March. Sounds to me like another business owner that had to close up was complaining about this womans food joint.  Just a guess.

I read our AZ Gov Doug says:

Voluntary Partial reopening of retail by appointment only on May 4 .

Voluntary Opening of retail expanded on May 8th. Fitting rooms closed.  Reduced occupancy.

May 12th: Best case scenario , reopen restaurants. Staff wear masks.  Announce they have just washed their hands to the customers.

Oh, BTWay , It was 104*F here on wednesday.

Nationwide, with over 6 million tests done, approx. 1 out of 6 people tested positive.

Here in NJ, with over 220K people tested, approx. 51% tested negative while 49% were positive.  ....Still have over 300 deaths per day here.

The problems we have in the northeast do not require drastic measures in all parts of the country.

It will be a long while before things return to normal for our part of the country.

Young fellow (cashier) at Lowes Garden area this morning 7:15am .. tells my wife and I  that we can not enter the gate.  Exit only.  I question that. When did the policy change? He says always the policy.  I ask for a manger..  as 2 more folks walk in behind us and the kid does not stop them (no masks on those folks).

Manager (no mask) corrected the young fellow that Exit Only policy was not in place at this Lowes Garden.  I thanked her.

Bruce:  I agree. Long time before any sense of normal returns for many areas of the USA..  I do not take lightly this virus. I look at each area of the USA on how people live there and are affected.

Navajo Nation in NE Arizona is hit hard.  Near 75% of the houses out there do not have running water.  People are spread out widely.  How did the Covid virus spread so quickly there?  I have not heard answers yet.

And: My retirement property is in Navajo County. North of Show Low AZ 16 miles.

Can I speak in past tense yet? I didn't get a day off or sick, starve, or hide but I shop with a mask. My county has had 3 deaths. A jail in my state had 43 of 49 infected.  There were two packs of hamburger on the shelf yesterday and the Hispanic community is making a point of having large gatherings in plain view. Dining rooms will be opening with restrictions, some tomorrow. When can I hug Mom and Dad again? :?

Bought gasoline at a Frys food store..  They have a very small service booth there. They now have the beverages in stand alone coolers that are self serve.

People there were all staying a distance apart as they stood inline to pay for drinks or gasoline.  Only folks that were close together were obvious couple or adults with children.  Masks on the children, a few others had masks on too.

There was another protest down at AZ State capitol about opening up AZ fully. A few more businesses announced they are opening monday May 4th

My grandson and his son came over today. we met them outside and stayed 6 ft apart, until my great grandson had to give "hugs" before they left. My dead woodchuck I caught this morning was very interesting to him. He's two and a half.

I would think it would be easy to catch a dead woodchuck?

A Conibear no. 7. Every time I find a chuck in it, it's dead

Did geezer groceries yesterday. It went well but TP still seems to be on the late list, along with sterile wipes and liquid alcohol based hand cleaner. Milk and butter looks a little spotty. Beef is sketchy but I got some ground.

The big chain I go to has put one-way arrows on the floor at the ends of the aisles since I shopped 2 weeks ago. Based on the on-site visual survey I took...OUR SOCIETY IS DOOMED!! The few men I saw shopping took heed of the floor markings while at least half of the women went against the arrows. I doubt that it was a purposeful choice though since most women in a grocery store have no awareness of where they are and what they are doing - some exceptions were noted. Period. I challenged a couple of them....thankfully they weren't carrying. I gave up.

It was a blood pressure test and I passed.
A good friend will come and bail you out of jail...but, a true friend will be sitting next to you saying. "Wow...that was fun!"

Poster geezer for retirement....

The people who don't want to keep themselves and others safe seem to REALLY not want to keep themselves and others safe.

I guess some people are just determined to be a cautionary tale.

Local Walmart near the house has the enter - exit stickers on the floors. No body pays attention to them the last time I was in that Walmart.  Even the Walmart employee shoppers for delivery do not follow the signs.

Since the incident at Walmart and Home Depot I have stopped visiting those places.  I have found alternative stores.  Need to drive a bit further , but I have time. LOL

Costco had a deal on the KirkLand syn oil in 5 qt bottles. I bought a few 2 pack cases of the 5 qt oil.  Delivered full syn oil 2.85 a quart.

We shop Frys Food store a few miles away. It is better than the Frys store near the house.    Or we shop the WinCo store.. No stickers on the floors, yet

Drive a bit to a local owned Nursery for plants, fertilzer, yard stuff.  Actually we forgot how nice the place is..  We went for convenience with HD or Lowes.

Ace hardware store has been filling the need on hardware items. Again a few miles further from us.

And; I am  buying more stuff online.  Since I retired and been home for 7 weeks.. I see the Fed X , UPS, Prime and USPS vehicles in the neighborhood every day. I think the Lady across the street orders everything online from Amazon.

Also :  We have noticed quite a few tossed gloves laying in parking lots.  I see people are still slobs.

Our son who was supposed to get heart surgery the 5th of April finally got it the 5th of May. Four bypasses. He is doing well and is probably going home Friday, His wife and kids haven't seen him yet. I've been able to work on the Jeepster and have had my eye on a "Cruise In" event to be held at an area drive-in theater the first week end in June. If local conditions remain the same it may still happen with social distancing which would mean that nobody should get close enough to judge my work too badly. GPster
