Matt, is there an egr valve that is under the carb on that car?

No. But I have a theory or two to chase now. Time to literally climb under the hood. Don't waste your mental energy. :)

I must correct myself on two counts

Back to my earlier statement about swapping baseplates. No, not on the Eddy, fool. Thats Q- Jets.

Oh, thats rich.

Pretty bad when my personalities have to crack wise at one another. The Pontiac V8 aisle in my mind is sparse and mostly expired.

The performer intake on the 455 is W/EGR but has block off. It was the 400 the P4B was on, that didn't have that. Waking up now...

The block off gasket sure could have sprung a leak, especially with the new inch of vacuum. Alright then!  8) I see a valid theory. Thanks. :)

Lean backfire ? pushing the throttle enriches with pump shot to clear it up a bit ? when it happens wit 2 carbs thats probably not the carbs fault . Something happened during the carb swap that changing back didnt fix . Since it takes a while for the problem to surface it must be a temperature related vacuum leak. I think KB has the right idea or it could be a temp controlled manifold vacuum switch.

Thanks for the tips, guys! It was that EGR block off leaking. Seems fixed.  :)   Letting it cool down before going back to the better carb. In as-recieved configuration but a little cleaner.  :)   I just might get me that big smirk off of this after all, before the day is out. :D

     Boy howdy. I tell you what. Both of those are complete sentences, in Texas BTW.

I put better carb back on, sounded like half the holes were missing.        No idle.

So, put the trusty one back on and gave it whut-fer. Dreamsville again. I come away from this experiment with the knowledge that the EPS750 #2 needs kit and soak, one jet that will never leave home, and a fixed leak although I'd have swore its exhaust behind that EGR port, not manifold vacuum.

Whatever. Don't have to understand everything, just need my Loud One. I held up long enough to get back where I was and had an adwrenchure. :?

Should be good to go for the standard sanity preservation outing here in a bit. :0-0 Believe I'll toss the the today tool pile onboard just in case.

My belt sander was close to the last tool without wheels under it. It had a wood stand that I made around 30 years ago. I collected an assortment of left over pieces of tubing and removed the caster wheels off from my old cart that was made from wood. A few hours of prep and welding and I have something useful. The next warm day will see it get some rattle can paint sprayed on it. I may enclose the base for storage for sanding belts.

Good job on the belt sander stand.  I worked on a stand for my compact bender.  Hopeful it will be done in the morning.

I got a compact bender the other day to help me bend some radius and other fabricating stuff.  I built a post to attach the bender and mount it to the floor of my shop.  I have tie downs built into the floor of my shop that are left over from my wreck rebuilding days.  The post for the bender interlocks into one of keyhole slots of the tie down fitting.  This way I can store the tool out of the way when it is not needed.  You can see another one of the tie downs that is uncovered on the floor to the right of the post near the chair.  These fittings in the floor have a round steel cover that is in place when they are not in use.

Very simple and quick. Now all the belts are in one place.

KB That is one slick unit . Everything right where you need it.

I believe KB is a fairly slick unit himself. :)  Going by the work normally shown.  8)

Tie rod ends can be like USB ports.

I changed one on the GTP Sunday evening, drove like crap yesterday with lots of new bump steer. Made hydroplaning into a new adventure.  So last night I eyeballed and guessed which way but was too bushed to go drive. This morning it was like a USB port... third time being the charm. ;) I tried again at lunch and ah wow yeaaah. Car drives good again! :) I had bought the part for the GT several years ago after the suspension hit but this car had a ripped boot when I got it. Finally noticed it nibbling away both corners of the tread when I did pads other day.

Thats all mighty heavy duty wrenching for a bodyman. :D

Latest F-1 high jinks: Bumperettes, beige, and bagger tails. :?  Color schemes in the Siamese cat to butterscotch cookie range.:-o I have been very busy cranking out renderings lately. Its a disproportionate amount of work to do, but when I design something bizarre off the top of my head on a Sunday then get a trigger pull from powers that be on Monday... and start building in metal on Tuesday... I digress... that is pretty dang fun.

Bagger tails? Elaborate , please.

Made a block off plate for the fuel injection pump drive hole in my sbc finned timing cover yesterday. I have been in a serious amount of pain lately and have not been able to fiddle in the shop . It was nice to get back to it! :)
