Finally back on the car trailer  air dam repair .. Today:  Saturday, the Right side is finished minus the trimming of the edges and some paint..

Left side:  I glassed the plywood down. I put a layer of cloth under the plywood that runs up the air dam side about 4 inches. Weight added to keep the wood in place.  I will add more cloth on top of the wood and up the side of the dam.. maybe sunday.  LOL

A post on another board made me remember about this metal spinning project I did about 40 years ago.  I  made this spinning die to make the top and bottom of an air cleaner.  Most of them were made of aluminum but some were made of copper.  When I retrieved them today the pieces were covered in dirt and grim.  I gave them a very quick dust off before I took a photo.

Brings back memories. My late dad was a metal spinner by trade.  Apprenticed back in 1936.     The turned wooden former was known as a "chuck". It was amazing to see the different tools/levers that were used in the forming process, plenty of upper body strength was acquired from that trade.   Aside to pots and pans we have at home that he made , I have some spun brass car lamps that he made back in the 1980,s that were to go on a project. Will put up a photo when I dust them down.

Here we go. One of the spun brass lamp housings with retainer trim ring and fitted captive seat for a 7" sealed beam bucket.

Nice. :)
I changed the oil in the lathe this afternoon. The drain plug is on the back side of the headstock. You have to hold a funnel while it drains. Time is of no importance. :)

Eating dinner... my wife walked out to the trash can. She comes back.  Says there is smoke coming up behind the neighbor's house across the street. Less than a minute later the fire dept shows up 5 large rigs , 2 crewcab trucks.

Neighbors house was on fire.  He was on the roof with a garden hose. Firemen told him to get off the roof, he refused... then they Really TOLD him to get off the roof.  Lets just say Gary is an eccentric neighbor.

the next door neighbor to Gary called 911.  Even after Gary told her: I got this .. he did not have it.

I just got an email from England. There's a pic of the 32 with the new owner and a big smile. This transaction started November 19. The phrase "slow boat to China" comes to mind. :)

Yesterday I bought two big bundles of walnut slabs at a local sawmill.  I hauled them home, and then cut them into firewood for the wood furnace at the shop.  I am tired and sore today.  They make about 2 rick a bundle and that means that I have enough wood to finish this winter hopefully.  At $20 a bundle, that is cheap heat.

We have a winter storm moving in tomorrow with a prediction of measurable show.  I got the snow blower out of storage, just in case I will need it.  This is to be our first real snow this season.  It has been an unusual winter.  Some cold, lots of rain, but very little snow.

I dont know how.. I ended up with a Coleman Lantern model 200A.. I knew   It was bought new by my parents decades ago. I've had it for 30 yrs at least, probably 40 yrs.

Tonight looking at the lantern, also looking online to see if there would be a manufacture date on it and there is:  November 1952 it was built.  Numbers stamped in the bottom of the tank. The OE box is purty rough shape.

That 11-52 date  makes the lantern older than I am.
