When I learned of Jessi's  death wednesday morning...

Similar thoughts went thru my head  in 1977 when we heard on the radio that Elvis was dead.  A world without Jessi just seemed strange.  She contributed way more than just racing and fabrication. Her positive energy and personality was very bright.

For some reason, with everything else going on in the world, this really upset me. To lose such a positive and outgoing person and ambassador for the automotive world is a loss that extends beyond those our hobby.

I was upset by it as well. What I remember the most about seeing her on TV was laughter. She really enjoyed the automotive world in all its depth and breadth, showed tremendous joy, and extended the audience in every direction including age and gender.

She will be terribly missed.

I read this evening, the investigators are trying to collect data from the on board computers of the jet powered car.  There was also a mention of a fire. No comment if the fire was caused by the crash or the crash caused by fire... yet.

Read about it with a pang of sadness; I liked her from the first time I saw her on Extreme Off-Road.
She was one of a kind.

There were 2 photos on the Media web site TMZ .. of a truck flatbed trailer with wreckage of the jet car. Looked like engine remnants and 1 rear wheel.  That car crashed very hard.

There also is a video of her running down the track and she was really cooking.

I have not seen any recent updates on the investigation in to Jessi' s death.

Curious if they can figure out if the car had a failure, did Jessi black out, did she simply over run the course length and could not shut down?

I read today:  Jessi Combs made 2 passes in opposite directions in the jet car for average speed of 531.889 mph... before the last run and crash.

The results will be submitted to  Guinness for verification and possible acceptance as the fastest woman on Earth

I read on the TMZ web site:  the sheriff's investigation report says the front wheel on the jet car failed around 550 mph... Appears the wheel collapsed after it struck something.  As I recall , the jet car had more than 1 front wheel.

Blunt force trauma to the head was the cause of death. The car caught on fire after the crash.

Thanks for the update, Tony.

Whatever the cause, it is a shame to lose such a pretty, and talented person.  ...She was a great example of women in the automotive field.

I saw that. Here's the car as shown before the crash, it looks like just one front wheel.  https://assets.hemmings.com/blog/wp-content/uploads//2019/08/NorthAmericanEagle.jpg

At the speeds involved it probably dug in hard. It all would have happened really, really fast.
