In time:  I will need a portable work table - stand setup.  Something to setup and use for various tools.  Like a basic 14 inch chop saw.

Was wondering if any one here had a setup they use when needed? This would be in addition to a regular work bench, just set it up as needed.  Take back down to gain the floor space back

A piece of plywood and some saw horses is not the deal I am looking for.

I figure 32 to 36 inches tall would work well for me.

i have always setup stuff on the floor for various seldom used tools.  My knees and back are less happy with that now

A friend set up a centerfire cartridge reloading set of tools on a board that gets C clamped to the dining table. You could put mounting provisions for all the bench mount stuff you have on one board and fasten to bench top when needed then stash it leaned against a wall behind the bench when not in use. Something like that?

It could have folding / locking legs underneath like a card table without getting too bulky, if it needs to also be freestanding.

Being cheap I built a work bench with solid legs that always takes up space but it can be moved so that it takes up space else where. It is 4 ft. by 4 ft. by 4 ft. ( all stock lengths of lumber cut in half). Due to failing eye site of the only eye that works iy put work in the range of my eye site without me having to genuflect (I'm catholic) because I don't get up very fast. I don't work on any more than one project at a time. GPster

If you feel like building one here's a pretty cool one https://www.familyhandyman.com/workshop/workbench/saturday-morning-workshop-folding-mobile-workbench/

One good thing about a folding bench is that if you fold it up after using it, there won't be crap all over it when you need to use it...like most of my benches are.

You might look at this  https://www.amazon.com/BLACK-DECKER-WM425-Workmate-Capacity/dp/B0000224R9

Fatcat has one he uses mostly for wood work, but I have used it and find it very sturdy. If you add a piece of cement board the size of the top you could even do light welding on it..

Second the idea of a B&D Workmate, picked up one about 10 years ago off Kijiji and loved it, upgraded to a fancier one after a uncle passed away, even though I had to put a new top on it.  Hardly take up any room when folded.  Has clamps that I used to clamp a miter saw down with.  Used for assembly, clamping and welding (just have to be careful the top doesn't start on fire).  Lots available on Kijiji for good prices.

Yes, on the B&D Workmate!  I suggest that you look on Craigslist, or alternative sites, for an older unit with the aluminum frame; heavier, & sturdier than the current units.  (I've had both of them....)

Thanks for the comments.

I have watched a few Youtube video reviews of various brands of these workbenches.

Some have more features than others.  A few are rated at 1,000 pound weight limit..  :!:

Actually I have the Black & Decker version of this

I recently saw one similar at Costco here in North Carolina

I have built a number of projects on this table and like Enjenjo said I initally bought it to use as a base for a 12" chop saw.

My Bride bought me a "WorkMate" by B&D back in the seventies when they first came on the market.  I still have it, and it has served for everything from a grinder stand to a reloading press table, and even have dropped a couple of bolts through the mounting ears of a bench vise and clamped them into the Workmate to hold it in place. It has been the basic bench for my miter saw, my bench top drill press, and I can't think of all the uses I have put it to. Even used it as a stand rebuilding transmissions.
Rrumbler - Older, grouchier, broken; but not completely dead, yet.

I have been watching the local Craigs List items...  A few foldable workbenches are there. Couple name brand and others of no name , most in ruff shape , over priced from my view.

Yards sale stuff in my area.  Tool related items disappear fast.  With my job thing, I do not have the time to check yard sales out early on thursday and friday mornings

folding banquet table legs..  makes any surface a work bench.. if you have length issues.. offset the legs carefully so they overlap when folded.

I've not purchased any table yet....  Looked at Dewalt folding work table at Home Depot yesterday.  $70.00 ... nice unit.

I have watched Craigs List... the prices on stuff is funny.  In the photos the tables look like junk.  Imagine it is worse looking in person.  One table was stitting out side in the dirt..  Why not even clean the unit off some before you take a photo??  LOL

We have a couple of folding card tables with legs on them like Wayne posted.  These tables are 40+ yars old.  Quite wobbly , but very useful for simple stuff time to time.
