Quote from: "enjenjo"Since he likes LEDs why not headlights with the LED turn signals built in. He can used an H4 type headlight, and convert to H4 compatible LED bulbs.

That may very well be what gets used, and it was discussed. Owner had a pic of some on his phone. We can always fall back on common solutions like that but if car and shop owners plus technicians are all receptive to opportunities to show off, why not? It is not being built as a show car but will probably be treated as one. My objective is to avoid distasteful mods and I'm donating hobby time to do so.

Personally, I question the effectiveness of bundled signals. Being so close to the headlight. The fender tip lamp idea was me trying to have one lamp that can function as park / turn AND side marker without interfering with the look. Not that its essential but it is possible and safer.

you might try cowl mounted signal lights for a different look . There were factory equipped cowl lights on the more expensive models .I am not against the widened fenders but I wonder if you could lower the rear valance to just above the bottom of the fenders and then widen the fenders  . I like the look of rear tail lights mounted on shortened pedestals .

I am really just looking to sort out what I need to weld up this week. I did this to more clearly show the thought.  I cannot say how many inches are bobbed here, all I know is that to me, the tip of the fender needs to be below the axle on a side view.

Yes, all the sizes of things are adjustable by more editing, this is just a quick ballpark attempt. They can hang signals on coat hangers for all it matters to me but I wanted to be able to show what I said last customer visit on those. Personally I hope he keeps the old hinge mounted mirror style in some way. If it were mine, thats the only thing I would want on a pedestal or anything. But thats just me. The owner has expressed no interest in lamps that stick out like that though. In my web travels, I saw shortened pedestals. I could make a case either way, looks vs visibility. Its pretty much going to have inadequate tail light size in my book no matter what. But he probably won't drive interstate real slow at night a lot. I just like a car to have what people expect to see when the unexpected situation arises.

I used the headlights with the led's inside because I didn't like most of the turn signals I saw on A's and 32's. I'm of no use on the tail. :)

The owner had a headlight pic that he liked, it was a black Foose deuce I think. The body will probably be shiny before anything gets decided.

Which would be in May at O&S     but way down the road for me.

I value all input. And I had left out a couple things so I went back for more editing fun. :)

Sorry IDJ but those rear fenders look like bell bottom pants . Are your fenders going to sit out farther from the body than stock , as that is what it looks like in that photoshopping . I have seen widened fenders that went on a wheel tub model A that looked really good , they were stock overall width or just slightly wider maybe an inch or two. I think they used a bit of a roll pan and bobbed fenders . The end of the bobbed fenders did not stick out the back any farther than the roll pan if i remember . Also with a full width roll pan you have a nice place to flush mount tail lights

AHA , like 34fords example of the silver and white A except take the inside edge of the fender and pull it in until it covers the inside edge of the tire

What that angle doesn't show is how the stock running board height looks silly with the fenders cut so high up. Thats my stance anyway, with stock running board height, a rear fender edge above the axle doesn't look good. Keep in mind every other one of these examples has a different height below the trunk lid depending on the parts left on or added or seams welded and that affects the optical effect of the combo. Be it prefab roll pan or fabbed, and with or without spare tire mount panel.

Don't apologize. I am doing something nobody asked me to, for one guy to glance at. He would have to tell me where to put what but indicated that he needed some sort of visual. I never had this car with rear fenders on it and shouldn't have to explain that the fenders are off another picture from the closest angle to what I needed, so everything you see is approximate. Haphazard guessing, not gospel for dispute. A starting place so I can know what to build. Because I am just about at a stopping place if nobody can say what I am to build. I don't know if the fenders I used are modified and do know that the edit is not exact. The line drawing was liked by most. Free work can't be expected to be precise. I can't be expected to define someone's wants for them but I can listen to what they say, get experienced advice, and go above and beyond by giving them a tool with which we can determine their preference. Thats it. For the price, thats stock width fenders best I can tell. I suggested no more than an inch or to below the spare tire mount panel and no less than about half the overhang with that setup. The edit is a longest version and yes the perspective is probably off. None of us cared for the commonly used flush plain round tail lights on a pan. So to everyone, on forums and face-to-face, all I can say is if you don't like what you see... change it or disregard it. I have done all I am willing to, for people who think I owe them something. Your input matters but only to me as I am trying to learn the picky picky prewar world just so I can complete one job. But its like pulling teeth if I have to know something. I hope a GM muscle car is next.

I like the tail light treatment. As long as the lense is vertical LED bulbs will give a lot of light.

The fenders from the body to the outside edge do look too wide, but I understand that is just because of the source, overall I like the look.

A idea for front turn signals, HD Superglide  lights mounted under the headlight mounting bolt, hiding the mounting nut:

My take on rear fenders and lights,  bobbed about 4 1/2" without the flip at the end.  Think the flip would have looked good but mine were destroyed so would have had to make from scratch or sourced another set of fenders.  The lights are 47-48 Chevy.  The plate is mounted on raised bosses stamped into the rear panel.

Was going for a more traditional appearance.

Considered a bit of a pan, mirroring the bead design at the bottom of the rear panel but only 2 or 3 inches deep.

Like the idea of widening the rear fenders to the inside, but your sketch (like it) shows them too wide unless you are going for the pro-street look.

Don't care for the A tail lights set into the fenders myself, think they look too tacked on (I know your work would not be done that way).

Paint is BESA Urethane, Satin RAL code A2212 Gray (Elkhart Sage name given to it by our designer daughter).  In real life it is darker than the pictures and has a greenish tint.  The green is more pronounced when in the shade.

I have no PMs Bob. Picture I used is on the bottom. Every photographer is not the same height, hello. :?

I stand by my work and statements. Thanks for the input. I will make sure the fenders are on the car, the rest can solve itself. I'm done.

IDJ Here is a suggestion for getting ideas . Go to autohobbypage.com and go to the index of pictures it will allow you to go to only the pics of the year of model a you want and there are probably hundreds of pictures to look over . Hope that helps .
