I did make one inner fender today, the main left panel. Pattern worked pretty well. Looks clean. Made one more revision... to make it removable with cooling unit in place and while leaving fender on. Not sure it could come out with hood on. Still have to make the combo inner / outer fender-to-firewall-and-frame bracket and make holes for that. These words-only descriptions ain't cutting it, I'll see what I can do.

Good to be thinking of service, as every vehicle needs service.

Yeah Mike's eyes got big when he saw it in cardboard. I didn't foresee a need to remove them like that but... well at least its more removable than it was. Still goes from radiator to front cab mount, so its a big joker.

Making fit refinements now. Got it about like I like. Looks like my existing bracket on the firewall will work plenty good enough too. Moving along and thinking I'll use this one as a new pattern for the other side.

Inner fenders was on the list for the white 51 if I would have kept it. That may happen on this one. Front and rear. Quite a bit of work involved in that. :)

Store-bought tubs could be plug welded ( or other attachment methods used ) with the lip on the fender side of the bedsides... a little sealer bead there... just saying.

And now I have to show you the easy way to do fronts. Been meaning to draw it so its easy to understand, what I did. Had to finish up that side first though. In due time.

I have the right side's metal cut but left an extra half inch on the back because while the inner fender bolt hole rows match the pattern, the right fender's bolt hole row is farther foreward than the left. Otherwise, its just a mirrored part. Approximately.

Hope this is legible at forum size. Posting it mainly I guess because I thought it turned out to be nicely simple. There ain't half a foot of welding in those new panels and the old were just trimmed and retained. And when no major hurdles were encontered in the process, I consider that to be worth passing along. Just clearly enough that a guy could use that plan if desired. Simple CAD. Fact is that I may not even have a right to post this because the subject isn't mine. Anything can be ruined with rules eh.

Here ya go  Sent this to customer resterday. No response. But I asked the boss first.

Looks nice, but way easier to grasp in in an illustration than trying to describe it.

Sketch was better than a pic too, for showing how it attaches. The lower bolt hole in the inner fender side of the firewall bracket is at the stock location for that hole. I failed to label the arrow indicating small rubber biscuits.

Dad came by yesterday and thoroughly ogled the truck. :)

It went to the back shop for the next mechanical phase last Friday.

OK well next mechanical phase looks like a dash do-over, tail lights mounted in the most dorky way imaginable, revision planning for the opening in the valance's shape, a cartoonishly enormous sewer pipe air intake through left inner fender and re-re-re-redo of the hood latch area. Looks like the hood will stay a double birdbath. Alrighty then.

I will never get the double birdbath. It wasn't your decision, but without vents in those divots it's a flaw in an otherwise really nice design. The whole point of hoods with those depressions is air extraction, and if they don't want to do that there should at least been drains.

Noticed today that wiper holes have been shaved. So our hero locked into the fair weather or birdbath commitment. He has a 60 Biscayne with wipers... with a few seasons on it already... for if a cool ride is required when the forecast threatens. It had mirrors on it too and those looked good to me. Clearly, in light of such intent this is a show vehicle.

I did note masking tape in a birdbath on the flat spot. I can't help but think... oh never mind. Just yeah theres that much.

F1 man and wife were by last week, they brought exceptional sweets for us. I feel its important that I relay the only truck related comment made:

"Everything on the truck looks good!" :)
