No Friday pics. I welded up the right fender most of the way then attempted to install the parts. The welded on nuts were impossible to use, at least for bolting together for this first time, and I failed to reference bolt holes on templates so the ends still can't be lined up. The truck just about has to be on a lift with wheels off to touch the inside of any bolt, but the required assistant would then need a ladder. Destroying my back a few days worth did get the part in place with four of six bolts however. Again, Friday fail and all I can say is it is latched.

A quick assessment of why, when latched, the hood bumpers sit a quarter inch off the fenders revealed that the striker's pop-up spring's washer bottoms out on the striker's jam nut. So until I can be at the vehicle again I can only wonder if the striker is even long enough to use on this build. At first thought, its either latch too small for job as built by me, or height of striker or latch mounting is wrong.

It appears that even after the cut and weld correction theres still some major problem. Once I can tighten the part with proper orientation and matching panel edges, I can move forward to seeing about the striker. Nut plates to be fastened inside the tip of the fender now seems like the only way to attach the panel in a way that the skill level of the required assistant is low enough for this dream to become reality. But the contortions required to get this far cost a high price in pain and a weekend to recover may produce new ideas.

Just continue ignoring.

Am I correct in that you have cut the front of the fender and lowered it to change the line to the front of the hood when closed?

No. Ouch. Its not a 56.

I cut the front of the fender.

The hood is not involved, nor is it shown.

Are you able to interpret this image?

When I confuse like the only person I thought had interest, thats a sign. A lighted exit sign.    Thanks.

I simply forgot to take a picture Friday. No objectives were accomplished. Ego must be my sole motivation. *.

I like what you are doing just not too familiar with the sheet metal to make any useful comments. 8)

If you look back to the Dec 7th post you can see what he is trying to fix, but you didn't hear it from me.

Its the words that are to blame. My mistake was thinking the tracing would explain it. Between that and showing everything...  and thinking I mentioned it earlier... I guess still not. Its a lot of hassle to actually follow along but also to post.

There ain't one among you green enough to think you can buy two new 51 Ford truck fenders, and that center panel with the latch in it.... and have four ends that meet, line up, bolt up, and be shaped right...

now, is there?

Thought not. We all know better.

This weekend's art. A rough loose single draft kard on plain paper with plain pencil and afterthought colored for pizazz with Crayola pencils. I been known to dodge card huntin and buying thataway.

Hmm, he wants to get a print. Told him better let me tidy that up on PC. Elements in the image relate to the shop's original logo but theres more vehicles now. :)

I have heard many times that repo parts are a surprise if they fit correctly. You are probably doing me a favor for showing how the latest of these parts fit. I look back to 2015 and realize that the decision to use the original hood rather than the fiberglass repo which was all there was at that time, was a good decision. :) As I look for my next project and evaluate how many parts might be needed, this is good info to not forget.

I gotta stop trying to interpret after-art silence.

Last week I didn't get these angles except on shop camera. To avoid undue strain I raised the front and took wheels off and tacked the nuts inside the fender from when we put all the bolts in Friday. Removed latch panel / upper tie bar assembly by myself then, no help available due to snow anyhow.

Then I held the templates to fender tips and poked where bolt holes are. Then held those poked fender end templates up to latch panel ends to pinpoint the conflicts.

Everybody with me now?

What is pictured below is now, after making an entirely new set of bolt holes on the right end of the middle panel and taking all holes out to 7/16" diameter. Today I used 3/8" bolts because now that size nuts are tacked in. Changing all to 5/16" is my preference now, for added range of adjustment.

That right fender is still pretty far off. Better now though. Revisitation required but I had the sense to quit where I did. I ought to investigate further. And plan to add a reinforcing strip to the bottom flange, something so the top of the grille area opening can look presentable. Once I get a flowing leading edge along the front of fenders and latch panel, and the shebang eyeballs.

This side is just nowhere near as bad off-

Still requires surgery. And I hear tell theres a Bronco rear floor job coming down my pipe.

I let this latch, dadburnit. Prolly hung up now but theres the opportunity to explain something previously only described. Hood side of latch (striker) needs to be higher, at a glance. Evidenced by the safety catch tab resting on latch panel. It just touches but that spring washer bottoms out on the pin's jam nut. Stock striker pin was in a recessed pocket as was the latch but deeper. If I don't run out of pin, I'll be alright but it could end up close to unscrewed.

If I am doing a complicated post, many times I will type it in windows notepad, then when it's right I'll copy and paste to the RRT. Even then I sometimes have to edit it. Repeatedly. And remember Jesus saves, and so should you. :D

What I should do is hang it up and mind my own business. But yeah I guess. I don't want to explain my device status again and have simply lost the ability to communicate altogether anyway. The will to do so will fade in time if I just leave the web to rot.
