Quote from: "kb426"How about this one?

I figure it would look a lot like that. It's not a color flop paint, but notice how it almost glows at some angles and is much darker at others. The color caught my imagination because it pops so much in some lighting conditions, really standing out in a parking lot without being wild like neon colors and the like.

Lots of flop is what I have gone for with my custom formulas or color choices. Don't like the what is often called chamelion, on stock Mustangs. The colors of it are yuck.

Not like I'm some qualified consultant but when someone is grasping for a color, I ask: Say you are at a gathering and go for a drink cup. Theres red yellow and blue, which is your pick? Alright, you snooze and somebody snags the last one that color, now which?

That usually gets enough info to start.

I got this did and the nose brace is ready to weld-

Thank you. For the most part there was enough steel left to just fold over on a different line. Hopes are that my scribed gap estimate proves out when the hood goes back on. Cab just sat today but they was all over the F250 pieces.

Where I been-

Where I'm headed, right next door-

I'll be trimming those overhangs away and welding 3 sides in this orientation. The one you're looking at here can be done from top. Got the pieces tacked at corners, gotta blend in the outside corner's curve as I go-

Not a great deal of grinding time required on outside corner welds, those are easiest.    :)

Heres this again, fully dressed-

Stand by for the day's conclusion...

So far, so... not bad.  :)  Tomorrow's dream: Fixing the humpylump action at the back half of these vents where they taper off. Calculated risks were taken for potentially more speed that day, working with hood upside down on a stand. The original intent was to take the inside wall farther rearward for a gentler contour, and I plan to cut half a foot of existing weld and the other half a foot behind it. And see where that leads. Risky business without a cowl seal or cowl in place and the height of skin above brace still not fixed in final position. Wait until you see what I have the hood sitting on so I can sit to fix...

Is there any reason to not make a cardboard template to match the contour you need when completed?

Certainly not. That will probably be included in tomorrow's activities, although I may find an original version in the pattern pile, or the mockup hood may have it right. Taking things one at a time but this is pretty much the last thing. And that'll learn me to cut a corner.  I pointed it out repeatedly to all parties and nobody batted an eye because all the vent stuff has happened relatively quick. Trouble is, I don't own a burr bit. Its one of the things I can't have because the universe wants it that way. :?  Or because I drop things too frequently since that one wreck.

Here is stuff I couldn't put off art-ing any longer... just quickies representing the tip of an iceberg. Between me and you, that Gulfpride scheme has merit, I just can't say how it might go over with the world. At a meet, fits right in and even stands out some. On the street... I dunno. Thats a pure KB thing. But I would thumb-up wave from the purple car. :)

My acrylic (art, brush) paints I just got must be for posters and junk. Not liking them. Will have to compare to some quality name old stuff. So you get tracings and colored pencil and I had fun coloring something. There are other images in the works but this was fastest and don't mind the slop... its not art, its just a loose depiction of a visual concept. 8)

Gulf Corporate colors are Washington blue and Omaha orange.

Thank you. The panel sides would be an oddity. But isn't that a great part of hot rodding? :) If I had access to a beat up panel, I would be game. As rare as they are, I don't expect that to happen. I'm too tight to buy a decent one and cut it up plus I would feel like a butcher. When they look like junk, I have no conscious about using what's left.

Model A colors, Frank? :?:

Bill, you are welcome. I hadn't done a picture that I liked or finished in a couple weeks so the coloring thing was therapy. I look at the panel bed thing and just don't like the slant out back or the funky spot ahead of fender, but its not as bad as I thought, either.

I did have another bizarre (and heck yes thats what "it" is about, durn near as much as going fast IMHO) frainbart... building on a spark from you and with that added outer bedside thing I keep trying to push...

You had said, leastwise I thot you did, something about just bending a panel straight down and making a wheel lip. My F150 bedside grab theory that drapes over the fender (or is merged with, sectioned in) gets the fender shape like a panel but you are left with bed nowhere near as tall as a panel quarter. So, the new thought to stir into that is what if a feller was to be swapping sides with stake pockets inside and used the reversed bed rail as a launch point for a taller outer bedside panel? It would have to be two pieces for the length.

The with rocker idea is poorly developed and short door stems from if you need inner and outer patches like the F1. I have another wild zinger idea that gets into chassis also and it comes from the observation that even a blown Coyote all fits below the fender tops. A guy might could use a donor unibody clear back to the B post and have only a back half made of tubing. Gas mileage being a primary benefit and I'll let you run your mind through other benefits or hassles and shortcomings. You are about past that point already but since you are doing IRS thats probably on a bolt-on subframe too and well maybe you could have much sheetmetal, little tubing. And just have the bed and front clip removable.

I better hush. No time to post the pics now but they are up if you know where to look.

FYI, not only are we back to full blast on the F1, it and the Model A are fixing to be in my work area!

We are waiting to see how they both will finish. They both have high tech attached and it's great that the F1 owner was able to give you guys the forward march command. I can only speak for myself but it has been fun to see what your shop turns out. :)

I know I am ready to see one go out.  And am glad its something to look at. :)  There is apparently no shortage, another Firebird should show tomorrow. Theres still a flat back glass one on the fence too. Plenty to do  :!:

Oh, when I flash carded boss man with last nite's colored drawing... response was instant: "Oh! A Gulf thing.". OK then! Identity acknowledged. Isn't Omaha Chevy orange? It seems like I mixed Omaha Orange a lot or something, stands out in memory. Blah blah pix. I have another qwik draw for you too, Bill. Carry on...

First, heres this and its snot snag-free going but the guys are all over it and progress seems steady-

Now, lets keep the wisecracks about this next pic family-oriented

It appears one has the other at a distinct disadvantage. Perhaps it is their mating season. :?:

That was the morning. Stand by...

Afternoon was mostly moving vehicles and parts and kerplunking cab on real biscuits-

This is starting to come around but is barely started. I figure get one side like I want then match it. Smoothing out the crown transition is just as important as the corner lines. Theres a couple warpage spots to deal with but the metal is cooperating so I am hoping for no great mess.

KB, I know where you might score a couple long crusty quarters. Nudge, wink. (background)  :)

Here is new study material. I know its... but it could... and if a guy was to...  :?  Oh, you surely will get the drift but not be that guy. Thats alright, too. Surely that build path long since left the radar but look twice at that profile, which may or may not be related to the other image below it. If you like it, see if you can reverse engineer or backtrace by the erasures to find the mods. :D
