Getting a little older and my eyesight is getting blurry close up to about to 20" out beyond that I can see great.

Out working in my shop I am constantly switching between regular safety glasses to Walmart cheaters to safety glasses with bifocals.

Safety glasses with bifocals are like walking around with about 6 beers in you.

I have the little cheater plastic lense in my welding helmet. Close up I still use the walmart cheaters but if I have to stay away from my work I cant use the cheaters while welding.

Its just a constant battle trying to see good and be safe.

You guys have any thing that works for you.

I am a truck driver and have to get a DOT physical which has a eye test I do good on that. Just have problems out in the shop.

Thanks Mike

Before I retired, they supplied us with safety glasses with bifocals. They weren't exact, but helped. I didn't have any close up work there. Out in the shop, I used cheaters or safety bifocals if it wasn't critical. Otherwise, I'd use stronger cheaters and goggles, which usually steamed up. I still use cheaters if I'm welding.

One of the electricians at work had a "bifocal" on top of his lens, so he could work overhead without craning his neck back.

I have found working with a jewelers magnifying visor effective . regular vision fine and tilt your head when you need to see close like reading a micrometer . Bifocals get tough when you need to look down and see at a distance like turning dials on a lathe or mill .

I now wear tri-focals ...   DON'T get the ones with the "blended lines"....  Those were my first choice & I never made it out of the optometrists  office...     Everything was kind of "blending" together .... :? ( Worse than "Beer Goggles"    :!:  :!: )

He changed me over to straight cut, visible line lenses, MUCH better ....I can now see things as they are...( Big..Bigger & Fuzzy   )
As for welding, I belong to the "measure twice, break the pencil, measure again, mark the piece, cut, weld together , measure again ,weld on another piece, cut some more off & grind to fit " club.... :?

I've used the bifocal safety glasses for several yrs. I had a pair with bifocal lens at the top & bottom for under vehicles on a hoist.

I am far sighted (thanks mom) ... so even in my late 30's my close up vision was going away

Then I went back to regular eye glasses when my eye sight got worse.  I use progressive lens. Any grinding , cutting stuff,  I wear a full face flip up shield over the glasses.

I did use a 2.0 lens cheater on my welding helmet till I had to go back to glasses full time.  Now I wear the glasses under the helmet.  Pain in the tush at times, but it works for me.

Under the dash of a car or close work..  I use a pair of small cheaters with 2.5 lens as I recall.  Its a pain getting old

I am going to look for some of the safety glasses with the bifocals on top. And get a new shield to go over my cheaters, the one I have is broke.

And just realize I am getting older.

Thanks Mike
