The assembly IS what deserves ALL the recognition. But if you think scratches don't happen, you're dreaming.  I used to get involved and was considered good about scratches. That was before I was fab guy. Last put together I did was Gary's Camino. Two scratches, one paint one trim. The red 33, I was told to oversee mounting of the body. The same guy who never waits to lift his corner tipped it off one lift arm and a horrible huge gouge went right up the cowl side.

Hopefully those couple stories will quench the collective thirst for idiot moves to focus on. If you never scratch fresh paint, you must not work on cars!

Years ago I was involved in a high end build. This was down to the end, and one of the guys was drilling a trim hole. The drill skated across the front fender putting a gouge clear to the metal in a four step candy paint job. It was fixed, but it wasn't easy.
Welcome to hell. Here's your accordion.

I was devastated when the 33 got it. Had to just get it sat down and walk away. Boss man took it like a champ and personally fixed it in the blink of an eye. Said it took all of us to do the damage so no individual shouldered the blame. We didn't get any pizza lunch for quite awhile after, though. It WAS a very sketchy maneuver due to the tiny area available to lift by. But that one guy always lifts with a * to this day, before anybody else is ready, and way too high on his corner. Now I know.

First car I did there, 67 Imp SS, and the 70 Mach1... were unblemished and I "built" those two. I had been in collision repair a decade and was actually known around town as the guy who can not mess stuff up. There was a gasp once as I lost grip on a lightweight tool which tumbled down the raised Mach hood and onto the fender. Didn't leave a mark or dent, whew!

Now, I really can't trust my bum hand to not drop things. A seasoned painter knows to expect this kind of thing, a boss watches for patterns, tendencies. Sincerity of excuse is considered, along with attentiveness and preventative measures, but a consistent stuff scratcher won't build for long. I think Mike found a way to beat the odds by buying stock in yellow 3M tape. Doesn't matter how overkill you go about protecting fresh paint, the effort is all practical. But for what its worth, I use a minimum of tape and maximum caution, aided by gobs upon gobs of experience hanging parts. That does scare some folks but when I have to, I still do alright.

Forum was running like a sloth in a peat bog for me right then.    I done good to just not lose the heartfelt and genuine, non-rant batch of text.

Here are the buffed dash and lizard skinned bobbed wheelwells. Say it in your Grover from Sesame Street voice...

This subject aught to be shown to the guy that wants frank to lower his car more. Of coarse It didn't have much of a floor when you started but your work shows how much thought is needed to accomplish that goal. GPster

I built a half inch body drop into my floor structure, thats it. Room for big tires is the harder part.

I am told it will scorch grass but nobody can get an idea how practical the ride height is until the car is on the road. As it stands the roof is around four feet and four inches high and rockers should be around six inches from the road. Which will probably drag somewhere if the driver doesn't slow down when they see the dark spot ahead, down the center of their lane.

Mike tells me there was fire in the hole today, with a bottle splash of gas in the TB. It made its first baby talk! Tank should be on it's way now.
