George, on the 51 and 32, I will split the cover lengthwise down the middle. I haven't got the hinge portion engineered yet. :)

It's a poor video but you get the idea. :)

The pics are of the cover latch and pull rod. The clearance on the fuel filler and the gas strut body. I redid the fuel filler and removed the 90* elbow. That filler is about as ugly as can be. I'm ready for suggestions for improvement. :)

Would it be too much of a PIA to raise the lid every time you wanted to fill the tank? Have the filler inside the bed?

Since there is no floor in the box , there would be no chance of fuel or fume buildup under the box cover . Driving would suck out any possible fumes . I would think about leaving the filler neck in the box . The gas shocks will lift the box cover and a cable release would make opening the box cover as simple as opening the gas flap on a new car. No exposed filler neck cleans up the look as well .I am not a fan of filler caps in the trunk of a closed car but in this case it is not part of , or connected to , the passenger compartment so poses no problem from vapors . It would also make it really hard for someone to steal gas from you !

Ok guys, mission accomplished. Phil, I was trying to get rid of the 90 degree filler neck and do it simply. I don't always have a better idea. :)
Because of lack of junk to use up, I used 1.75" pipe to adapt to all the 2" stuff. Now, I'm about to go fill the hole in the bed. :)

Now, I'm back to where I started yesterday. :)

Much gooder ... 8)    Good luck matching the rust where you welded that patch in ..
I could send you some of our special "Insta-Rust" compound that we use on the roads...  It would only take a week or so to match what you have there .... :?

Just make sure that you fill it slowly & that the cap stays above the level of the tank neck ...Is there any room to move the tank to the passenger side for more clearance :?:

Bob, by doing alot of work, I could move the tank about 3/4". The rear frame rail width was set by the spring pads on the rear. The frame rails are 2" wide and the tank risers are 2" wide. The tank is a snug fit in between the 2 sets of risers. That would cause a need for dimpleing the tank for shock clearance. I thought about using 1 x 2" tubing down the side of the tank. Without having a great way to go from round to flat and back to round, I passed on that idea. I could miter the bend going into the hose and gain a little. As of right now, I'm going to contemplate options. :)
I scrapped more undercoating off the bed cover. Bolted it back on and installed some more bolts. I have the end panel bolted on but went no further. I radiused the  corners of the bed cover. I had some other stuff to do so that is today's stopping point.

Nice creative work on that bed cover...the whole project actually. );b(

Too bad no one around here is doing a similar project. I've got a '58 Edsel Villager wagon roof that's wasting away in my scrap pile.

Thank you, George. I wish I had that roof in my scrap pile. Those wagon roofs are pretty rare. I have 2 more bed covers to make. They sure make a great start. I was aware that most 32-34 sedans had their top filled with these but that took care of most of the supply in my part of the world. I believe this is a 61 Plymouth that I'm using.

I would agree with that.

That all turned out pretty cool.  8)  Like the latch and release and oh heck yeah on the filler inside. Missed that post until now.
