Tony, the other day I was asked if I still intended to sell this. I answered yes. The person said that it might be easier to sell with a bed on it versus the car back half. Their thought was the car part could be too much for some people. Because I can build this bed in short order, I'm going to try and sell it first. If that fails, the car part will be looked at again as well as disassembly for paint. Does that sound logical????

Today's update covers looming wiring, disconnects on the steering column, putting the dash back together, bed sides mounted.

Well, you keep giving tasks

i googled that word: logical .

Yuup.  Makes sense.  Likely the reason i can seldom sell stuff  unless it is real cheap.  I build what I like, no plans to sell , then I need to sell them.

Aw, crap! Tony, you and an engineer friend I have have both said something about the car back half. How about if I put the quarter panels on Cameo style????

Maybe you could fasten the '58 quarters to the bed with velcrow. GPster

If you use the bed at least you'll have a way to haul the title home from the DMV

Over here at O&S, I've had a pretty good day. I don't think I screwed anything up. :) I put the front panel in the brake and bent a 90 on the bottom to stiffen it up. I used 3/4" square tube to weld to the ends of the front panel where it's bolted to the sides. I was set to just do something similar to the tailgate when I decided it needed more work to be decent. I whacked 3" off of each end raised panel so it's symmetrical. It has 1 x 2" tube for the top rail and 3/4" for the bottom and sides where it's bolted to the bed sides.

Bob, for old blind guys, what would be the reference point for precision? LOL

Measure at least 3 times with different yardsticks ....Mark cut line with well used soapstone...Make precision cut with blue wrench using #16 lens.....Trim to fit with axe... Straighten distorted area with rock & concrete curbing....

POOF...Ready for installation..... 8)

I like to use a sledge hammer and cold chisel to make the precision cuts.
Welcome to hell. Here's your accordion.

Well, I couldn't find 3 yard sticks and I couldn't find a really large sledge hammer so I had to try some less accurate methods. :)
I managed to take something simple and spend a few hours again. I had a left over tag bracket from the 51 that I was going to use part of. Because this thing will sit fairly low, I didn't want to bend the tag all the time. A simple under the tailgate bracket wouldn't suffice. I cut up the old bracket, bent it in the brake, cut angles on it and  cut a recess on the rear of it for the wire to run up unrestrained. Almost 2 hours later, I'm finished. :)

Spiffy! :)  I think I like the bed. Need to step back and squint at it.

Back at O&S, I have a stereo mounted and operational. This is a digital only, no cd but it does have bluetooth. I fabbed up a bracket and started connecting wires. I had ran a switched and live feed for this. The stopping point was connecting speakers and verifying that it was operational. There is nothing but bare metal in this. Needs sound deadener! :) In the left over pile was a pair of Infinity Reference 3" speakers. Yes, they sound like 3" units. :) I have to do some thinking about placement. Over and out. :)
