A couple things in play here. How much have you driven it with the new springs? From my experience it will settle more after a couple hundred miles.  That said, on a Mustang front end a full coil will drop it about 2". If in doubt cut a half of coil and try them that way. It's easier to cut them again than add it back.

C.K., thats a good point. Because the control arm multiplies the springs movement, we should be able to measure the triangle that it forms and go from there. Because I'm brain dead at the moment, I would consider the installed height of the spring versus the height of the ball joints to create a ratio multiplier to do the math. Once again, do the opposite of what I say it it could be correct. :)

UGLY OLDS

Hi Kids .....  Gotta jump in as we just replaced the front springs in the Ugly Olds yesterday ....

We used the 4-cyl  Mustang II No A/C springs that I suggested earlier...
The car now sits about two inches higher than before the ah ...."Aerial Act" .... Working with these springs in a BUNCH of other cars we have found that they will "sag" about  one to two inches after a thousand or so miles ....

One VERY important thing to do ....When you tighten the lower control arm bolts , I put a pair of jackstands under the lower ball joints & let the weight of the car load the springs as much as possible ... Have a guy my size standing on the bumper for even better results...THEN tighten the lower control arm bolts to spec ....DO NOT tighten the bolts with the wheels "hanging"...This alone will cause the cat to sit about one inch higher than normal....

As for cutting coils , cutting one full coil will drop the car about two inches ....It ALSO makes the front of the car ride like a cement truck ...MUCH too stiff for my liking ...Remember, I removed a set that had one coil removed after approx 45K miles & replaced them with stock 4-cyl springs earlier this year...Night & day difference in the ride ....

Here is the info on the spring we used ....

moog# 8558    Free height- 13.44..Installed height- 9.5...Inner dia.-3.51...Wire dia.-0.57..Spring   rate.(#'s to collapse 1")-353..Normal Load-1388#'s..   Constant Rate spring ...

I cannot stress enough care when cutting coils ...ANY Mustang II spring gets REAL stiff, REAL quick ..Like has been suggested, if necessary, cut 1/2 coil off & drive another thousand miles or soo... 8)

Hope this helps....

Most people have a higher than average number of legs.

I've been wondering if you can heat the coil at a little  time and let it settle down?  Lets say heat an inch or 2 of the coil and put a block or jack to limit the drop.

I cut one full coil off today.  It lowered the car 2 5/16".  The lower A arms are parallel to the ground and the car sits the way that I like.  We will see how much more it settles as I drive it.

I took before and after photos but I can not get my photos from my iPhone to my computer.  My computer crashed recently, I had to update my operating system,  I lost some of my old stuff, and some features are still not working.  Technology is great when it all works as it should, but my patience is short when simple things do not work.

The ride improved.  The springs were to long and they were limiting the suspension travel.

I had replaced the springs recently with the strongest that Speedway sells.  http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Mustang-II-Suspension-Front-Springs,45731.html   These springs require trimming to set the correct ride height.  I weighed the car according to their instructions.  The front end weighed 1825 pounds and so I bought there strongest spring which was the right size for the weight of my car.  After reading the responses and talking to Speedway, I decided to cut one full coil.

I will see what happens to the ride height after I drive it a few weeks.  I am taking the height measurements at the bottom of the front bumper by the license plate.  This gives a place that I can repeat measurements with some accuracy.

Removing the springs and trimming the length of each one is a hard for me to do these days.  My age and my physical limitation make it a very difficult job.  I am sore today.  I do not remember this being difficult 10 years ago.

I feel your pain. Seems like everything nowadays causes more pain than it did 10 years ago.
