Trunk Lid  :!:  :!:  :!:  Come on down  :!:  :D  You're the next contestant on the fix is right   :!:  :!:  :!:

Since its the least desireable day of the week, I started with the least desireable area to fix. The noggin scratcher. One half of my brain sez to the other "Stop fantasizing about slick fancy repairs, you can't see that. Just get new metal in there." Still scratching, t'other side wonders amongst himselves if a piece of masking tape covers it, or how much. "Hmm, covers quite a bit. I know what to do" sez he.

Me, myself, and I foraged briefly and found a scrap that wasn't the whole length of what I had in mind, but the width would work without trimming. So I unfolded and flattened it. Made marks around my tape then pulled it and cut and cleaned the area of concern. Grabbed my 3/4-1" wide strip and shinky and me had a go at curving it. Put black on the backside / inside, shuffled it in where I imagined it and then... well here, you look. Kinda the same drill as the door. Since the lid is on a stand I had to monitor the height and regulate with the chisel. You'll see.

Welcome to my work area. Here we have the 1960 Rustomatic. This model came with the standard floor rust, lower door rust and has the optional truck rust for your owner satisfaction. We want all owners of the model to be throughly surrounded by all the joy that this model can provide. :) Now back to our regular scheduled program. I have to attend to the trash can. :)

Thats absolutely right, folks!  :D  Step right up (but watch your step near the refuse bin. Mop please!) and see for yourself the magnificent and time-tested oxide finish on this lovely unit. Why, for just a small additional labor charge, you can be the envy of all your standard trim level friends and opt for "fixed" rust. You heard right ladies and gentlemen, due to our silly inventory glitch you can sport an upscale "fixed" car. That doesn't just mean rust that never leaves, it means you pay us and it continues to renew it's durable "outdoor oxide" finish AS IT AGES! Don't believe it? Get yours today!

You guys do good work but how does the price compare....https://youtu.be/AkdtOOYdQOs
You never have time to do it right the first time but you always have time to do it again.

In '64 I had a '60 Chevy that had an Earl Scheib paint job. The quarter car washes pretty much blew most of the paint off shortly after I bought it. Oh, Oh, shoulda got Maaco... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5IhIoC-GkM

In the early 70's, I painted several of my friends cars for almost free. I had the nickname "Scheib" for a while. In retrospect, was that an insult? :)

I have a buddy that is a great painter, and most people think his name is Earl. It's not :D

My name is Earl was a fun show.  :)  One word- Catalina.

So Frank, hows that hourly rate grab ya? Are we Scheib-esque? We oughtta double that, eh? I know you and your buddies probably have rods stacked like firewood...   Before this thread is over you'll see better stuff. Its the quarter patches that I'll take my time on, and they came with a "these don't fit well" guarantee.

Before you have a seat for today's horror feature, kids... you may wish to visit concessions for a gore pouch and a tummy-soothing soda.   :D  Hope you haven't forgotten your IDJ decoder rings! If you're here for the visual safari, step this way now-

Carefully welding my way across the narrow ridge, I was halted by a sharp drop-off and nowhere to go.

Spotting a nearby steel tree, I simply lopped off a branch with the edge of my hand in one deft karate chop. Making myself a bridge with it...

I was able to trot straight across, don't you know.

I looked back to see my progress-

and was encouraged to see that this expedition may go smoothly.

Plunging bravely headlong into the treeline, I began to see the ugly creatures of the forest. I dared not stop, and trudged ever forth disregarding each distraction with eyes forward and tracking the beast's trail-

The fleeing creature doubled back time and again, still eluding me. The trail became smoother with each backtrack and before long, it and I had carved a shallow trench in the earth with our feet.

I could tell that it's pace was weakening and I was closing in on my prey. With a blaze of my enormous fortitude, I ran fast. So fast indeed, that the very earth wore smooth and shiny beneath me. I could already smell the roasting dinner...

Suddenly and at full confident blast, I crashed right into the ugly Oxide Lid's face. It showed its teeth and snarled, backed into a corner and exhausted by my relentless pursuit. In a flash, I produced my weapon and fired dot after dot into its hide. Unaffected, it arose and snarled angrily.

Again, it turned tale and ran off around a corner. But my chase had worn its spirit down. T'was not as fleet of foot as it was before. I'm sure my presence was quite abrasive. In an act of true sportsmanship, I allowed it's escape once more and made camp on the smoothed ground. That I may pursue another day, and enjoy my hard-earned trophy all the more.

I had not met the commander. :) So now you have 3 sides to go on the lid?
TEAM SMART

idrivejunk

He is on Underdog.  :)  Yep. That top corner by the hinge is nowhere near as perforated on the other side. But the contact area for the weatherstrip has pits and holes down both sides a little. At the rear center of the shell, theres a large mostly flat area that has to go. Behind that one cutout I did on the skin already. Then the back flange of the shell is goner on one end. I should have it flipped over to do topside in just that one spot in a couple days. Probably need to toss it up on the body and check that front edge. Its strong enough to wail on if need be. My intent is for a coat of filler to flatten today's overlap ditch. Aside from plug welds on the floors, everything from here out has a fairly substantial degree of difficulty. In the interest of seeing no further evil, I have not closely inspected the hood yet.  :?

Is this your dog, KB- :?:   Whats his name?

That is a bit low for this area. $80 to $100 is about the going rate. More for dealer shops.

Looking like the lid shell might be finished today. Did a handful of small patches this AM.
