Because the brake booster is right next to it. If the Ujoint were to break, I wanted some protection for the brake booster and master cylinder. There is a driveshaft loop incorporated in it too.

Good thinking. I can't imagine the 6 having enough power to break anything but we all know strange things happen. :)

More progress. The exhaust system is in for the final time. I reworked the emergency brake linkage with a bell crank in it since I had to offset the lever several inches to the right. I had some stainless pencil tips laying around, so I put them on too. I also installed the left engine splash apron, I had to modify it for the dual head pipes. It fits good, but it has to installed in two pieces to get it in. I wrapped the head pipes with insulation from just below the manifolds to the bottom of the engine, to keep the heat off the steering box.I had to replace the steering box too. The $65 box I bought off Ebay was not rebuildable without machine work, but it made a great $150 core for the reman one.

I am still studying the alternator bracket, I have not come up with an elegant solution yet, but I will.

Simple question: do you charge for thinking time or only working time? Not trying to be critical, just trying to figure out what my future may be after I retire. :)

I charge for some of the thinking time, but not all of it. A lot of the thinking is done while I am working on another part, but sometimes you have to do a drawing, or a mock up to turn your thoughts in the right direction.

If you are measuring , writing it down , or looking at your drawings to come up with a conclusion , you should charge for it . You are using skills the customer either does not have or would rather pay someone else to do . A properly designed part should fit and/or perform better than an out of the box part or the box store part should have been used . Many rod/race car parts are made of " unobtainium " it doesn't exist until you make it . There are only so many people who can access unobtanium , charge for those services .

I understand and do charge for that. When the decision was made to add air conditioning I looked at what was available, the down side and up side of the different solutions  and came up with my own within the parameters of what space I had to work with, what I had for parts, and what looked good. All that time was charged to the job. When figuring out a belcrank for the emergency brake linkage I was assembling the exhaust at the time, and the time was already paid for. And of course the time to actually make the belcrank was charged.

I always log the pondering time but never know how or if it is charged. Like enjenjo does, I believe that at least some of it should get counted. It would be tough to bill all of it though, unless its a very complex task. Absolutely a valid type of labor though, in my mind.

Beautiful work!  :D  );b(

A long overdue update.I installed the AC condenser, and the Spal electric fan on the radiator, and installed the radiator on the chassis. I ran a 3/8" hard line with rubber on both ends from the intake to the booster.I installed the last of the brake lines from the master cylinder to the combo valve with the residual valves in the middle. I also have the AC compressor mounted, the alternator mounted, and the water pump and pulley on. I am still waiting on the fan.

I have the cab here and have started marking out where holes will need to be cut for the master cylinder access, and to run the lines for the AC and heater. I have some home brewed heat barrier that I will roll on the bottom and firewall, and then install some Dynamat over it.

Looks great .. 8)  Are the alternator & compressor brackets available or did you make them   :?:
Also .. Could that mounting system work on a '57 235 in.    :?:

Any idea's about K-Zoo yet  :?:

They are available from a couple places, but the ones you can but won't work with Fenton headers except Patricks, and the truck owner has an issue with patricks. So I made these brackets. I based them on Alan Grove.s design, but modified the placement for the headers.

Since this engine is a 62, they should work fine on a 57.

I will not be at the Zoo again this year. My grandson Josh is getting married in Las Vegas the tuesday after Kalamazoo, so I will be out there.
