Quote from: "wayne petty"the only thing around here was me blowing into a gas tank to find a vapor leak for a friend. ..  i did recall to breathe in thru the nose and out thru the mouth.
When I was around 6 my dad used to use gasoline to start brushpile fires and my grandpa had a gasoline blowtorch. I was really fascinated with the way gas burned. One day my dad had just filled the lawnmower and left the empty gallon gas can sitting on the steps...next to grandpa's zippo. I did what seemed natural for a curious firebug. I lit the spout while blowing into the vent. I had a really neat torch going until I had to take a breath. Yup, the can blew up and flash burnt my face and arms. They peeled a few days later.

Some of us learn the hard way.

About the same age, Dad lit a brush fire with gasoline, Woomp! I thought that was neat! He went on to something else, and left me to watch the fire. Well, it burned down after a little while, and in my mind it needed more gasoline. So I added more, with the same results you had. It blew the gas can to smithereens.

I am in recovery mode from Bonneville last week and the HAMB Drags this weekend.  There is an interesting lead photo in an article on Banshift this morning.  http://bangshift.com/bangshift-galleries/need-your-sunday-morning-bonneville-speed-week-2016-fix-here-you-go/

This might be a photo of run, that in my excitement, I abandoned George at the starting line.  George was taking video of the car while it was leaving and I was to wait for him to get in the chase vehicle.  I hopped in the chase truck after Hooley was pushed off, and left without waiting for George.  In the heat of the moment, I got carried away, but George did not.

That world famous 974 certainly does attract the photographers doesn't it? Nice pic.

It's too bad the old Stude made too much power for track conditions. We can only imagine what the possibilities were if there had been traction.

Not to worry about leaving me at the starting line John. I didn't have to walk the 3 miles back to the pits. I thumbed a ride with Kenny.

So...  Ol George became the kid that was forgotten?  Fun story.

To John and George: I'm guessing this is a good thing that it happened to George and not John's wife. Some forgive, some put it on your permanent record. :)

You guys may not have found any bite on the salt but man... you looked cool doin' it!  8) Glad you got that lead shot. Its high praise for a very serious-looking car.

Been working on Vickie's parts car to give her something to drive this year. Once we put the plug wires on it and turned it over it only took about two minutes to get it going. We could not run it long, we did not have the fan and alternator belt.
In case you can't hear Vickie, she said "IT'S TO LOAD" and "I WILL NEED A LOUDER STEREO".

You never have time to do it right the first time but you always have time to do it again.

I am whooped today. Whooped a project this week though, see new thread. Theres probably an updates' worth of yella Camaro I could post. Meanwhile, in the department of things we may have peeked at around the rod shop-

The Datsun is incarcerated pending sandblast jail. Old hat, and rice at that.

This Riviera now wears 2016 Honda Basque Red Pearl. Being polished and assembled but this is the only pic so far. She has a glow in the sun.

Now do you remember the blue '67 Ford Ranger? Its back from upholstery. Sigh. Since you guys are cool, I'll show ya.

A color match issue exists. Not sure what gonna happen there, doors are dark. Never liked the color, did like the stock, greener shade but this is also a "that-year" color. Not a fan of the interior either. But here it is, and by all means the truck is cool. Looks like a half ton of fun and I'd have to dirt road it

Remember all I really did was tear that one down, and install a bed floor we made. Here is that, and bear in mind that a wood kit goes on top of it.

I am spending my last day of holidays today . Back to school tomorrow . This is a weird industry in a way . You take two months off and just get used to taking it easy , then go back and start the busiest part of your year . You go from nothing to full out in a day .

Thanks  Bob , sometimes I think the special place will be a padded room but for the most part I have not regretted my choice in careers . The last machine shop I worked at full time before teaching closed this summer . I got to walking around in the old place and it sure felt odd . I think I got the best of both worlds where I am now , I always wanted to run a machine shop of my own when I worked in the trade and now I have that as well as the full time job of passing on skills to kids . It is a great feeling visiting machine shops and see kids you introduced to the trade making a good living at it . I am nearing the end of my career and I am going to miss the interaction with kids when I am gone . At least I now have machines at home to keep machining in retirement .

Photo of my air filter for a/c in my shop.  I replaced the air filters saturday morning (yesterday).

New un-used filter on the bottom in the photo.  I replace the filters often
