1962 Morris Minor DOOR latches

I need to update latches on the Morris. Very weak British design.


Loooking for ideas. Cut , fit , weld.  Pin design?

Just a idea.

Did this on my Model A.  they are a pain to update as the window channel is right against the outer door frame.  Had to route the release linkage for the outside handle down and under the window then up again.

The latch is a Bearclaw latches (BTTF) Eberhart 9-400-R and 9-400-L
, that has two levers, one for inside and one for outside.  No lock.  the latches are approved for automobile use.

Picked these up at Back to the 50's a few years ago, I$45 with mounting kit.

On a previous build used the rear door latches from a Mazda 3 sedan.  Just have to be careful you do not over extend the linkage travel.  Install  was similar.

Yes.  Very narrow space on the door ,between the window channel


I did not know the Bear Claw type latches were avaialble in different size

I used latches from rocky hinges , the small ones , for my Anglia . they were snug but worked .
