This column is in my coupe I'm guessing it is a corvette. It has tilt and telescopic functions on it. Anyone able to tell me what year it is as I have to order parts for it.
The part I need I think is called a C Clip retainer for the horn. Every now and again when I turn right the horn sounds

Anyone able to tell me what it is and where I would buy parts for it.?
cheers
I maybe from down under but I know which way is up.
Oh hell there goes another head rush.

It is similar to the '68-'73 Corvette column but the telescopic lever is not the same. I would guess A or G body with a console shifter.

Try a GM dealer that has been around awhile or a yard with a older stuff.

sometime i think in 1978  they went to the later column with the dimmer switch on the column. so you have a pre 78 column.. but they were still used in sevilles up thru 79 i think..

since you have it apart.. i am taking that you know to use a 5/16-18 allen set screw down the middle to lock the telecsopic to all you to use your lock plate depressor. .. you probably knew that..

depending on what your steering wheel looks like.. 76 to 79 seville. or eldorado..  some models up thru 81..

what parts do you need or is that all you have????

can you line up all your parts and take a photograph of them.. i can examine it and perhaps point out whats missing. i have done dozens of these..  but i don't have a single part left..  i did end up with a telescopic steering wheel and gave it away a few years back.. make some notes and put some part numbers off the parts next to them.. it will  help in figuring out what you have and what you need..

if you need a turn signal switch.. please photograph the connectors.. both male and female sides and both sides of each.. with the wires layed flat and in order.. you don't have to pull the switch do to this..  once in a great while the tag on the turn signal switch wiring harness survives..

there are at least 2 variations in turn signal switch connectors.. different lengths.. and the caddy versions have 3 or 4 extra wires out at the end for the cornering lights.. is your car equipped with cornering lights up front???

Okay guys I should have said this column is in my 34 ford coupe that I bought when I was in your country a few years back.
Like I said in the first post my horn would blow when I turned right so I pulled the after market steering wheel found the problem and fixed it but the horn contact retainer was so brittle when I touched it it broke.
With the link Wayne gave me I am able to buy a new one so thanks for your help Wayne and Tom.
Also Wayne thanks for the tip on the set screw I didn't know that but I did screw a screw into it to pull the shaft up another time when I removed the wheel.
I converted the coupe (there is a thread on it here somewhere) to RHD and 95% of it was similar to what we have and use but a couple of small things did catch me out for a short time but all is good now.
Cheers

it was late last night when i answered.. i would probably use the U shaped bar and the allen set screw to remove the C clip and the locking plate.. to examine the plastic horn ring canceling device under there.. you may have broken a turn signal cancel spring..  or the horn ring and that is causing the horn to honk also..  dorman products /help brand 49312
http://www.amazon.com/Dorman-49312-Signal-Return-Spring/dp/B000C5C9YS these can actually come out of ANY 1969 to 1992 gm turn signal switch... so you don't need to buy them and ship them around the world.. any of the 3 versions of the column..  you can also order them from the site i linked earlier.

i don't recall if its this green one.Part Number: 83233. http://www.autozone.com/electrical-and-lighting/turn-signal-cam/dorman-turn-signal-cam/103058_0_0/

or the white one. Part Number: 83232 . http://www.autozone.com/electrical-and-lighting/turn-signal-cam/dorman-turn-signal-cam/103057_0_0/

the springs again.. http://www.autozone.com/electrical-and-lighting/turn-signal-cam/dorman-turn-signal-cam/17389_0_0/

just to clarify .. the turn signal switch with the cornering lights is this
and i realize that you have it swapped into a hotrod
duralast/autozone/wells ve brand SW326

this is the version without cornering lights.. duralast/autozone/wells ve brand SW324...

http://www.autozone.com/electrical-and-lighting/turn-signal-switch/duralast-turn-signal-switch/chevrolet/corvette/1977/8-cylinders-l-5-7l-4bl-ohv/65848_0_0/

cornering lights are used on full size cars and come on full time to assist the drivers of these barges in moving between lanes and to illuminate the next lane.. they use a single 1156 32 candle power bulb that does not have a flasher on it.  but they cornering light wiring could be used for so much more.  additional turn signal or side markers..  led turn signals that are not connected to the brake lights..  or even in locations where the turn signals and brake lights are required to be separate bulbs..  its just a thought of a rarely used circuit..  even used as cornering lights where  hidden bulbs light up that side of the pavement in front of the car without shining forward..

i hope you get it fixed.. but i bet you will need probably the green turn signal cancel cam /horn ring.. the brass contact ring has probably come loose where the tabs have broken off..  i have had to replace a bunch of those now that i am almost awake..  and yes.. i have had to replace that 5 fingered clip that always gives be the 1 finger salute as it breaks into pieces.  for those reading along.. this is the steering wheel puller and the lock plate depressor.. http://www.harborfreight.com/steering-wheel-remover-set-68982.html   but with telescopic gm columns you will still need  a 5/16-18 allen set screw.. for the non tilt columns.  you pry the retaining ring onto the tapered adapters and leave it there .. you can then just slide it back into place when you are reassembling.. makes life easier..
