Does anyone know about how much an old-style arc welder similar to this one would weigh?  http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w71/mr48chev/Tools%20and%20equipment/DSCN0729.jpg

I'm sure it's a bunch, since they're basically just big transformers with multiple taps.

Around 200 lbs. I used one on the farm when I was young. It had wheels on the back and I was able to move it but I never tried to pick it up. That would have been way out of my capabilities. In case you don't know, it will take at least a 50 amp breaker to run that and do much. The new inverter units do more on 20 amps than that will do with 50 amps. My old ac/dc unit that is transformer will do dc at around 200 amps on a 50 amp breaker but on ac trying to do tig, it wouldn't put out many amps before tripping the breaker.
