About the hardest part of assembling a T5 is installing the shift block and detent spring and ball assembly. The spring and ball are under the shift block, and can't be seen while installing it. You have to keep the spring compressed enough to recess the ball into the shift block, and hold it in place while you are installing it on the shift shaft.

So here is how I install it.

Here is another tip. When installing a S10 tail housing on a Mustang T5, you have to use the GM speedometer gear, and relocate it on the shaft. You need to drill a new clip hole, and use a shim epoxied in place to center it. The S10 gear has the ID too small to fit over the Ford spline, so it has to be honed out to fit. Or, you can use a Turbo 350 gear with the correct number of teeth for your application, it fits over the Ford spline, and you need a slightly thicker shim, about .070" to make it fit. Either a T5, or 350 bullet will fit as long as you use the corresponding gear.

You can drill the clip hole in the shaft with a carbide drill, turning very slowly, best done in a drill press with a vise, and lots of lube. 5/32"  is the correct size, and the hole is 7.875" from the rear of the main shaft bearing.
