Ok ,I have my steering arms almost done for the T and I have run into a problem. Where is a person to get a tapered reamer that will do the job for the hole for the tie rod end? I have a tie rod end that allows you to put another tie rod into it for cross steer from speedway motors. That is the one I need. It measures about .110 taper/inch ,roughly double of a morse taper.

My memory is foggy about this but I think I used the tapered tool you use for cleaning up pipe for threading. It seems like this stuff was 7 degree angles.

Welcome to hell. Here's your accordion.

Got one off E-bay from X-Cut (1 1/2"/Ft. for tie rod ends)(52.95), for $66 including shipping to Canada.  Excellent quality commercial grade product.  Quick shipping.

Seem to list them quite regularly.

1 1/2"/Ft. for tie rod ends (Xcut).

Might even be where Speedway gets theirs, but X-Cut looked like better quality.  I believe "Made in USA".

Looks like the price has gone up a bit, $ 85.00 US, no wonder when I offered them for sale they were snapped up so quickly.

Regardless, good people to deal with:  http://www.xkut-reamers.com/servlet/the-7/1-dsh-1-fdsh-2%22-TAPER-PER-FOOT/Detail

One of the guys I work with thinks he has one at home. Yeah canuck they are not cheap.I need the tool for 2 holes!

Canuck

Know the feeling.  Two radius rod mounts and a pitman arm.  Only saving point was the had jumped in price and I was able to help a fellow rodder in southern Manitoba by selling it to him for less than he could get it.  Made a couple of bucks, not enough to boast about but it paid for a coffee.   :-o

Just remember that the steering taper is different than the standard tapered reamer that most have.

I have measured and calculated a taper of about 7 degrees.

Yes, it is 7 degrees. There are several sources for reamers.
Be aware that if it is a CARBON STEEL reamer, do not power drive it.
Turn it by hand and keep going forward. Do not drag it backward.
If it is a high speed steel reamer, it will have "HSS" stamped on it somewhere.
Use cutting oil.

Thanks pete ,I know about the carbon steel thing .This material is 4340 so I will have to be careful even with hss.

I have now tried to contact XKUT about their tapered reamer at least 5 times and left a message getting no reply once. I cannot order online as it just shuts me down. I wonder how much business they lose this way? Anyone suggest another supplier?

I think Speedway Motors has them. You can order by phone.

I am not too sure that those reamers from speedway aren't made of carbon steel. I will need HSS even for just the two holes.I guess I should just call and ask.
