I got a friend that has a '37 Ford coupe with a 383 SBC hooked to a 700 R4. He is does not have the lockup converter working.
Will it hurt to run it that way or will it do damage to the converter or trans ?
I have heard it will get too hot.  Is that true ?
Thanks , Rick

Depends on year of the 700r4 trans... early units need lockup activated.

later units were given more oil flow in the converter during operation in ''non-lockup'' mode.  They cooler better in non lockup.

In Lockup mode the main heat generator (converter) does not generate much heat
