Quote from: "Carnut"Ok, talking about steering columns.

My 77 Silverado has a tilt with cruise on the turn signal stalk and the wiper switch on the dash with the intermittent apparently part of the dash switch. That W/S switch was replaced by dealer early ofter going bad and the intermittent stopped working awhile back. I was kinda under the impression the switch was plugged into a printed circuit panel and didn't really use wires.

I also have an 89 Silverado which has the cruise and wiper controls on the turn signal stalk.

So, just wondering if I could put an 89 tilt in my 77 pickup and get the wiper working from the switch and would it work with my current factory cruise? Any thoughts?

the cruise connection is probably the same.. its a tiny ribbon cable with 4 wires.. and a printed circuit connector..

as for the wipers.. if both are delay.. it should work..

the wiring connection will be different.. but the electronic signals should be the same..    careful comparison of the 2 wiring diagrams is needed.

the delay uses a variable resistance to change the voltage feedback to the wiper delay board on the motor.. along with the low medium and high wiring. i will check farther into this if you want.. i probably have the proper diagrams...  might take about 2 hours. and a few print outs to draw up the Reconnection.

the 77 stuff is getting hard to find stuff on.. not impossible.. just harder..

Thanks a bunch Wayne, I appreciate all the info I can get.

Just been wondering if I could handle the changes needed.

Also just realized that the 89 column has the dimmer switch as well.

If I was confident I could get all the wires hookedup and working I think I might give it a try.

Kinda wish I had thought of this possibility a long time ago.

Count the wires on the cruise plug. I'm pretty sure the 77 has three wires, and the 89 has 4 wires. You can make a 4 wire switch work a 3 wire cruise, but not vise versa.

I also seem to recall the 77 having the delay board in the switch, and the 89 having it in the motor. Wayne can correct me if I am wrong.
Welcome to hell. Here's your accordion.
