i have a question to ask... i can always ask max up at H and H... but i was curious...

why in this picture.. there are only external seals on the guides on half the set ...

The exhaust valve guides do not use the seals because there is no significant vacuum present to draw oil past the outside of the exhaust guides.

The Ford "N" tractors with the 4-cyl flathead use the same guides/seals, and that is the explanation given as to why seals are not needed on the exhaust guides.

Wayne is correct ... I still have the  MAC 48" long "Tool" to remove & install them ..    ( Picture a 48" long piece of bar stock with the end forged into a  U  shape ) .
The U catches on the slot on the bottom of the guide ...You pry on the bar to pull it down into the engine & compress the spring ...Install the U-shaped keeper clip & release tension on the bar ...All with two hands ...

They used to stick pretty bad in sludged engines.   :evil:

 I remember really "getting on the bar" to try to free one on a customers car ...Broke the left side motor mount instead... :oops:

  Ahhhhhh....."Underhead" valves ...What will they  think of next  :?:
