Need to find a Cheaper type Scan tool for my 1994 Buick Le Sabre with this type plug. For some reason the 1994 Buick is not like most GM cars. Please help. Anyone in Scottsdale area that could help me out.  Thanks for any info, John
Picture would not post because of size

looks like it has 16 pin 8 and 8. Any way to use a jumper wire on this thing? Not much info on this Buick.

be sure that the scan tool you get has the proper cartridge .. and cables for your car..    almost every one comes with gm cables but the 94 takes at least a 94, 95, 96 cartridge.. sometimes a 98 cartridge..

depending on the scan tool.... it varies...

search craigs list for    scantool...   scanner...  scan tool...  OBD1.. OBD2... OTC....  snap on...

94 and 95 are almost always OBD1.5... and will ONLY be accessed with a scan tool....

here.... i don't see a cartridge with it????

you should buy this one just for the books... the cartridges also..

http://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/tls/2581714947.html

those tools and technique manuals are handy and cost over 50 bucks each...

having both of those looking like you might have enough stuff to scan it..

the parts from one will fit the other...

the cartridges are on ebay 30 to 100 bucks each..

post the dates of the cartridges after you get them..

you can always sell them for more..

OTC Monitor 2000 Scanner.  cartridge's ;Ford 81- 87, GM 81- 87, 3 in one GM Ford Chry  thru 90.
Will any f these work?   Thanks, John

wayne petty

nope.... i was out and did not get your message until too late..

those are handy cartridges...

you can easily sell that unit for the same as you payed..

even less the books..

how about the other unit..   did it have any cartridges..

you are probably going to need the pathfinder 96 domestic...

there are pathfinder 93.. but you have to have a newer date than your car is...

Can i buy a cartridge to work?

wayne petty

still looking ...

does the other scan tool i linked have cartridges.??? if so what year..

i did see this ON ebay... 35 bucks.. but i cannot tell what years the cartridges are for...

it does not look like it has enough cables...  it does look like the cables from the 2000 might fit on the end of the round connector...

i cannot tell which cartridges come with this 60 buck one on ebay also..

its a much later version..

i should mention that i searched and searched... for the one i got for months...

there are also pawn shops... that sometimes have them.. swap meets also...

wayne petty

this will only work with the 4000 style monitors..

OTC Pathfinder97 Diagnostic Software and vehicle adapter cables for use with OTC, MATCO, MAC, and Cornwell automotive diagnostic scanners. Includes complete set of manuals detailed below. Suitable for 4000E, 4000 ENHANCED, ENHANCED, and ELITE model scanners. Everything in like new condition and fully tested. Pathfinder 1997 is probably my favorite OTC software because of the amount of domestic coverage it contains; 1989-1997. Scan engine computer error codes, view live data stream, and perform advanced automotive diagnostics on Engine, Transmission, and many ABS for the following:

Gen. Motors: 1989 - 1997
Ford: 1989 - 1997
Chrysler: 1989 - 1997
Jeep: 1991 - 1997
Saturn: 1991 - 1997

did you buy the 2000 monitor??

is that other 4000 still available.????

the reason...   people who own 1982 thorough 1989 cars and trucks.. and fords since you have those cartridges..  can use this monitor 2000 to access the trouble codes...

do you know how many corvette owners with 82 C3's  and 84 to 89 C4 corvettes.. and any other GM that monitor 2000 will plug into..

wayne petty

i have been trying to find out.. but i think that the monitor 2000 was outdated at the 87 or 88 model year...

the older cartridges will work in the monitor 4000 versions. but i don't think the stuff will work the other direction. i just don't have anything to prove it..

you ask about software for the laptop...

i think i have a DS file that might help... but that is just what gets displayed on the  scan tool..

i opened it and looked at the raw data..  i kinda understand how it works.. but it takes additional software.. and you will need to come up with cables..

this is where a LOT of professional mechanics get their stuff at..

try this place.. they might also have stuff not on the web site any more.. most of their stuff is OBD2.,.  and you are stuck at OBD1.5...

i have a huge question.. have you tried a Harbor freight 98614.????

http://www.harborfreight.com/can-obd-ii-code-reader-eobd-scanner-98614.html

i have plugged it into 95 year model jaguars and gotten to look at the live data and trouble codes...  since you have an OBD2 connector..  it might just work...

do you have anybody who might loan you one.. or a harbor freight store near you ???????

you do have the option of going over this diagram ONE circuit at a time.. to verify that each is operating properly..
