Aod speedocable

need some help ,are there conversion sets for the vss i have an Aod with
electronic speedo but i want to use a cable but still using the vss
thx

Ford used what you are looking for.. a speed-O cable unit that had a VSS built in with wires coming off the unit.

I have no idea what years that were used.  I would suspect the years are around the change over from mechanical inputs to electronic which was in the mid to late 1980's

the adaptor you need looks something like this... with a snap in speedo cable...

i am not sure this is the right one....

this is an SU1065 at AZ...   there are 410 different vehicle speed sensor..

it will take more research... including which speedo cable matches .. then how long a speedo cable you need.....  what fitting on the top for the back of your speedo head...

but wait.. there's no gear on the end...  it uses the the same gear as the speedo cables use...

what sort of signals does it put out....  NOT A CLUE

if it puts out 1 per rev.. 2 per rev   4 per rev...  or much more than that...

I had one like Wayne posted in a 1986 Ford EXP. the endof the speedo cable snaps into the drive assemply after it is attached to the transmission.

i'll remove it and take a pic of it, i thought the early aod's used a cable but i'm not sure about the wires

there are several different upper end styles of speedo cable casting attachment to the back of the speedometer...

there are speedometer shops that have all the components and dies to create any length and fittings you could ever need....

they can even terminate the cable with threaded fittings to allow a ratio box mid cable...

you can also install a speed sensor mid cable...

can you post what type of fitting you need on the back of the speedo head.. and how long a cable you need...  i can look around the many catalogs i have .. while i am watching the indy 500..

Some of the Ford Escorts used a VSS that was installed in the middle of the speedo cable.

Just cleaned it up i saw a white cup ,i pushed it out with a screwdriver and to my suprise i swaw a square were i can put in the cable.
Never expected that

When the transmission was rebuilt in my '89 Ford ranger the mechanic that did it lost the clip that holds the cable to that electric box. He never did find the clip so the cable has been "tie-wrapped" in place for probably 25,000 miles. Don't know if the clip is special per application but the Ranger mat give you a direction for something other than FWD. GPster
