i am not opposed to that design


i wonder if one could use a narrow sprag roller clutch on the end of the piston pin with the outer in the rod to rotate the piston pin as the rod moves through its angle changes...   that might solve the piston pin one sided lube problems..   this could make the pin ratchet around inside the piston..  

the sprag outer race might need to be in a tolerance ring like an alternator rear bearing.. so slight side motions might be absorbed..

That design has been used many times before.

Every couple years, someone tries to push a "revolutionary"
new internal combustion engine with incredible efficiency and
reduced emissions. Lots of glowing adjectives.

Usually, these contain more moving parts than the conventional
motor it is supposed to replace.

Rarely do they have a working prototype, of any scale.


Many of these designs are intended to burn investment dollars only.
Actual production is rarely a consideration.

or are you talking about the sprag to rotate the piston in as the rod follows the crank around...

Very impressive,,,,,,,,,, now bolt that unit to a turbo encabulator and you'd have something! 8)

Hey, Hey easy now.
The kindly Prof. Hofbauer is CTO for Ecomotors headed by John Coletti, formerly of Ford's Skunkworks. Hofbauer was at VW for 20 yrs. and involved in thier first diesel and the VR6. Ecomotors counts Bill Gates among it's investors.
