A somewhat more realistic comparison might be the untaxed per gallon cost.

The taxes on gas are the choices the societies governments have already made on the value of gas in their countries. That kinda gets down to the entire tax burden each country levies on each of it's individuals.

In the past it was obvious the really small cars produced in the hi tax countries was a result of the gas tax burden and not really the choice of the consumers, especially visible when the 'very rich' all chose large cars to show off in.

Most all folks in the U.S. have always had the 'choice' of size and type of car they wished to drive because our government didn't levy such taxes on our energy.

Now that 'choice' is being influenced by our government with a singular purpose of making energy expensive for some rather arguable reasons.

Heh, heh, on the other hand has anyone seen this new Shelby:

paid $3.47 at costco today

local cheapest non-costco was also at $3.47

typically when costco catches up to the local stations it means gas prices are stabilizing but who knows
