Great info.  I'm thinking T5.  All the LS-specific sides will complain that these engines put out too much torque and will destroy the trans in seconds.  I have trouble buying that, at least in the case of a 5.3 reasonably close to stock.  Fox-body Mustang guys ran WC T5s for years behind small block Fords strong enough to require block girdles and I won't drag race it more than maybe once or twice just to see what it'll do, with no slicks.  The T56 is a fantastic trans but at 3-4 times the cost for a good used unit it's spendy for my budget.
