9" Ford housing length?

Probably a dumb question...but here goes.

I have a pair of big bearing 31 spline axles that came out of a quick change rear end. I want to build a  housing around them. How much space do I need to allow between the axle ends inside the differential? I sold off all of my 9" housings awhile back so I don't have anything to calculate from at present.

If I know that I believe I can figure out the rest.

1 inch is a good figure. at least it's the one I use.
