The burnt Willys has a unilite distributor.  The wires on the outside of the distributor are burnt.   It has an electronic pickup in the distributor.  I can not read the number clearly on the outside of the distributor but this information is on the pickup.

I can not find a web site for Mallory.  All I come up with is companies that sell there products.  I know nothing about these units as the only one I have had was on a car I owned and I never had to do anything with it.  Can anyone guide me as to where to start a search for a new pickup.

John, when I was a kid growing up Mallory was the best. So when the 38 needed spark I bought a unilite for the engine. Have read many times about the unilite being JUNK. Alot of people have had good luck with them. I burned mine up charging the battery. Put a Pertronix ignitor unit in it. Alot better . Took it up to my motor builder to have the vac advance  limitted to 10 deg, and mech recurved. The vac advance was real * and the mech was usable. The construction of the product in my opion is next to junk. My engine guy would not even work on it. The plate that holds the electronics is held in place by two tiny set screws that fit in a indent on the side of the .050 plate that holds the guts in place. This set screw jut barley touches that plate. When the dist. gets hot and expands it is even less then. My motor guy pointed all this out to me. And told me to get a MSD or stock chevy. So got a msd. A little more money but worth it. The stock chevy is better than the unilite . Thats my 2 cents worth.

I was real sorry to hear of the fire, and happy it wasn't a lot worse.
Anyway, for some good news; that might ease the pain just a tetch; I have one of those Unilites here that I am converting to a MSD trigger.  (The mallory only has one redeeming feature IMHO, and that is it's compact size, otherwise I'd use the stock Chevy unit instead).  You can have the Unilite module for nothing, and I'll bring it with me to Louisville. It is used, but was working when pulled from a race boat.  I think it is OK; if nothing else, it could be a spare.

Let me know if you want it.

Thanks for the offer.  I was able to order one and I should have it in my hand tomorrow.  If I was building the car, I would use another type of trigger as I have heard bad things about these units.   The owner of the car is due back in town on Friday and I really would like to have it back up and running by then.  Yesterday I discovered a whole burnt wire loom under the car.  One more thing to fix.

Brother, I have a complete Mallory Unilite ready to go. Like others, I didn't trust it for the long road trips. I replaced it with a stock single point. Call me if you need it. Sam

WZ JUNK

I should have the parts I need tomorrow but if they are not in or not the right stuff, I may need one.
