George (and others) , a buddy of mine was having some mild chest pains.  He ran his own small biz. Mobile wheel , lug nutz, accessory bizness.  Too busy to slow down was his excuse

He finally stopped , went to ER..   quad bypass. That was 8 yrs ago.  Sold the biz

Since then : He had another bypass added and 1 heart valve replaced

George, sorry to hear of your problem Bud.  Hope everything is coming along well.  We gentlemen usually wait until it's too late to go see the Doc.  It happens so quick sometimes we're lucky to make it to a hospital.
Get well my friend!

Thanks for the well wishes guys. I'm back at the bunker and managing very well within some limits for a while. Most of the restrictions are to prevent bleeding from the procedure site since I'm on blood thinners. A person can bleed out pretty quick through a femoral artery.

I think the worst part of the whole deal for me was lying flat on my back without being able to move anything but my arms for 12 hours following the procedure. I have osteoarthritis in my back and am still recovering from that part. But otherwise feel so much better already and am looking forward to quite a few more active years.

They said a heart attack was inevitable and I'm far enough out in the woods (off recognized roads) that I probably wouldn't have made it to medical help without dying, or at the minimum, extensive damage to my heart. Living alone has it's drawbacks. When I can drive and get around, I'm going into town to see if I can set up some sort of address that puts me in the system so if I need 911 service in the future they can find me.

Bruce and all, your advice to follow up with rehab and follow doctor's orders is well noted.

Anyway, enough about me but again, thanks to you all for your support and thanks to God for the mortality reminder.

I built a bench for my son today. Used a recycled formica top, and made the legs out of two by fours. I used 7 eight foot two by fours for a 2.5 ft by 6 ft top, so it should be sturdy enough.

Quote from: "purplepickup"I'm laying in the cardiac section of the hospital in traverse city. I had chest pain for a couple of weeks and they got strong enough that I figured it was time to get checked. It turned out that I had a 99% blocked artery on my heart but hadn't had a heart attack yet. Got lucky on that one. Had a heart catheter and a stent put in so I guess I'm good to go for a while longer. Pay attention to your body guys.
Do to my condition it was hard to recognize that my being tired and lack of energy was due to heart problems. After a year of changing medications and seeing specialists my wife suggested that I have s stress test. They wouldn't let me finish the test and sent me to our hospital's cardioligist's home hospital in Columbus. 90% blockage in the "Widow Maker" and the found another one with blockage so I was double stented. The time I had to lay still was well spent by watching the video about "Big Daddy Roth" that I had bought in a Borders book store accross from the hospital before going in. The cardioligist said looking at my history of tests showed that my low colesterolnumber was too low (probably heredity)) and nobody caught it because my high number was a little high. Things go like that sometimes. When a cancer specialist operated on me for the Melenoma the blood test showed my glucose was over 200 (70 - 130) and no one mentioned it because that wasn't what they were working on. It's a good thing I had started driving again because I had theropy 3 times a week for a while and insurance wouldn't pay for it unlesss you completed it. Stints worked because a resent stress test showed normal (that part of me any way). Sometimes "It'll be OK" is not the right answer. GPster

Oh wow, scary stuff there.

This year has been woefully short on car activity except for trips to the race track and planning my car in my head. Hopefully I'll get a good dose of car culture this weekend at a show called Greaserama in Platte City. It's low buck stuff but I like that...should be a good time.

My Labor day weekend was less than fun.  Little over a month ago, my friend Jim died suddenly while he cared for his ailing wife Carol.

Carol expired this  weekend. No too much a surprise since she was so ill and now she was lonely with her husband gone.  Jim & Carol were great folks.  Great neighbors when we lived on the west side.  Just good good folks .

and:

A buddy has been dealing with an alcoholic wife.   The past year she has ramped up her drinking amount and more often now.  It was a bad weekend for him.  Friends have offered advice till we are worn out.  My buddy just sits there and lets his wife go nutz.  He seems to think she will fix herself. It's  just sad.

My daily driver, a 2000 Dakota RT with about 77,000 miles on it decided to let the power steering pump become history saturday morning. No one had a pump and with the holiday weekend, it would be wednesday before I could get one. I purchased a pulley tool also. When I removed the drive belt, the water pump turned loose of the antifreeze. The parts store had a new pump and the bypass hose so I went back and went to work. After 3 hours, the steering pump is ready to install and the water pump is laying on the floor. I'm working carefully because of sharp edges and old man skin. This is a great way to spend the evening. :)

I drove to Tulare Ca today to visit DRD57, and pick up some parts. 700 miles round trip. He has a nice shop, and a ton of cars being done.

We don't hear much from Don these days, glad it's because he's busy making his dream into reality.

Last night rain came and stopped the progress on my Dakota. This evening it is finished and operational.   In case you were wondering, the 51 is in the shop with the front end off so that's why I'm working outside. I cleaned up the 32 to go see the hookers tomorrow. The car show is in Hooker Ok.   I hope you all have a great weekend.
