I tore down Shelby's engine yesterday, crank is bad, two rods are bad, the wrist pins are semi-seized, the cams have bad bearing surfaces, it's going to take over a grand in parts to fix it. I am now looking for a good used engine. A Taurus engine will work by changing the intake, and the timing cover, and low mileage engines are cheaper than Escape/Tribute engines.

Lots of damage. Lack of oil, high mileage, weak design?

She ran it out of oil, and drove it that way for some time.

Yes. She told me it didn't use oil, so she didn't check it. I asked " how about when it started rattling, and to oil light came on?" She said it would go out when you revved it up.

my friends daughter did that once . Called her dad and told him the engine wasn't working , she drove it as far as she could but the GENIE LIGHT was on and wouldn't go out.

I'm going to stick up for Frank. It wasn't his job to teach her about these things. I'm sure glad I wasn't there during the discussion. :)

She wished she wasn't. I made her feel really bad, more than I wanted to. This was a week ago last sunday, and she was to close on her house today, and I told her it would cost $3000 to fix. She was beside herself.

After I cooled off, I let her know that we could fix it cheaper, and she could still get her house. So she signed the papers this afternoon.

Hmmm, wonder how she knew it did not use oil , if the oil level was not checked?

"All BMW's burn oil" says a getting  irritated mechanic and owner of a small town busy garage.."read your owners manual"..to this customer.
This garage mainly services average vehicles..lots of 4x4 trucks.Diesel specialist. I am always surprised when I see high end vehicles there..some people send their cars there for work..by flat bed..from 3 hrs away.

A  pretty well heeled woman is really angry..apprently with him.."but how can the oil light come on I just had it changed 3000 km ago" (somewhere else)

I live near an area wealthy enough(lots of seasonal residents) to have the owner tell me..that that is not such a big deal..we have all gone through this here..including his mother who runs this place..people pulling in in  cars..oil lights on..no oil. I would have thought that higher end rides would have some sort of a level indicator/shut off..maybe some do.

sbc cop cars that became taxiis..just drive them until you hear them rattling..then add a couple bottles of oil.. don't worry about the oil light
