I am making a Vernier adjuster for a router table fence. Because I was asked to.
Welcome to hell. Here's your accordion.

I got to work on the T tonight . Trying to make the final positioning on the home made unisteer . I will probably fit my front fenders and tires on tomorrow to make sure I have the wheels in the right position before I weld in the steering mounts . I have seen a T with the front wheels too far back ....... not pretty!

Any pics of the home made Unisteer? I was surprised to learn recently that a Unisteer will faiL the NSRA Safety 23. A friend is building a '48 Desoto with a 440 and has to use a Unisteer, he was building the car with passing the Safety 23 as a top priority and is upset that it won't pass with the Unisteer.

Where did he hear that a Unisteer will not pass ? The chain style offset steering will not pass BUT as an inspector I have not heard that they have moved the unisteer to that status.

When I learn how to post pictures  I will post MY version of a unisteer . Basically I took about 9 1/2 " out of a 92 escort rack and cut off the drivers side almost as much . I didn't like the shortness of the unisteer system so this one is longer giving the rack more distance between the supporting end bushings than what sticks out the end on a left turn . The rack body was turned down to the same diameter at each end of where it was cut and a press fit sleeve was pushed over the cut ends for an inch on each side of the splice . The angle of the steering pitman arm will be the same length as the panhard rod and at the same angle , hopefully eliminating any bump steer .

We have the drywall up in the bathroom, taped and first coat of joint compound on. Ceiling raised in the bedroom, should be ready for drywall friday. Friday we also start on the living room.

Well yesterday I took my S15 instrument panel to the guy that keeps our computer running. I had asked him if he had ever repaired printed circuit boards and he wanted to take a look at it . After 10 months of worrying about it he fixed it in 10 minutes. Maybe I need to spend less time asking how to fix or replace things and more time asking for help. Now I need to cut a piece of plex-i-glass for the instruments cover and mount it in the new "hammer-formed" dash that I made. But first I need to finish cleaning up the plants in our pond before it rains. The guy I know that is building the DeSoto with the Unisteer hangs out with a group of gearheads and was told by his friend who is a NSRA inspector that the Unisteer won't pass. He is upset, he has the Safety 23 list posted on his shop door and is building the car with the list as top priority. The Safety 23  sticker was his goal for the car. If someone car verify that the car WILL pass with the unisteer i would love to pass it along. The Unisteer is the only way he can get the steering to work in a '48 DeSoto with a 440 and Mustang II type suspebsion.

Could you find out where he heard this please! I just spoke with the Chief NSRA inspector for the Michigan Safety team. As long as we are talking about the same component. Unisteer rack and pinion is acceptable.

HOWEVER IF he is talking about an adapter that offsets the steering at the cowl and is basically two sprockets linked by a chain then that would be correct. The chain offset adapter in not NSRA safety program acceptable.

Could you PM me the inspectors name?

It is the  two sprocket offset adaptor that mounts at the firewall that  I am talking about.
I have no idea of the inspectors name, it's a friend of his that is in a monthly get together they have down Mt. Clemens way.

Okay That style adapter is NOT accepted by NSRA as safe for long term use due to chain stretch issues.
