Thanks Wayne, I hadn't even considered that.  This article http://www.enginebuildermag.com/Article/1932/gaerte_engines.aspx caught my attention on the same site.  Around 1990 I was working for the then car owner for Sammy Swindell.  It was a regular thing for the owner's brother to call up and say "Sammy blew up another one.  Gaerte will have another one ready at 10:30 tonight.  Find a truck with enough space and time to put this on and take it to Spring Grove/Fargo/Knoxville/Bartlett, TN."

For a time they actually talked Gaerte so far out of their box as to build V6 Fords when Swindell wanted to race the Busch series.  At the time those cars ran V6s and only Ford would give him factory sponsorship.
