has anybody made their own short finder? or maybe bought a good one? I got a short under the dash of my 57 and I'm trying to track it down

Sometimes using a compass and following along the wire--the short will make the compass needle move locating the short.

I bought a little meter-like device from Eastwood years ago that works as 57Larry says. I had a short in the accessory circuit of my '78 Seville. The circuit had lots of courtesy lights and stuff in it and kept blowing the fuse. The device indicated it was in the left rear door in the area with the window switches and cigar lighter. When I finally removed the entire lighter mechanism the short went away. The little insulator disc in the bottom of the receptacle has become dislodged and went to ground.

A good friend will come and bail you out of jail...but, a true friend will be sitting next to you saying. "Wow...that was fun!"
