Can anyone tell me how to install a net/backup switch on a c6 trans my trans didn't have one to go by.

wayne petty

most C6's came with back up light switches on the manual lever. that also had a neutral safety switch in it also....

the solenoid power is run through the neutral safety switch before it goes to a ford style solenoid.. the wires are too small for a direct to the starter application...

i ran across these PDF files. while i was researching the part numbers

the first one is motorcraft engineering number to  a sales number...
so the part number stamped on the ford or motorcraft part can now be figured out without calling the dealership..

its 265 pages..

http://www.fordinstallersupport.com/files/catalogs/ap42b.pdf

and then this discontinued parts to the replacement numbers if any

http://www.fordinstallersupport.com/files/catalogs/ap41b.pdf

its 203 page..

both of those are worth their weight in gold when working on fords...

[Waynne I have the correct sw in hand  need to know how to align it up with the shift linkage and the sw lever on the trans. SW1148

enjenjo

It should fit over a boss on the side of the trans after removing the shift lever. there are two bolt holes in the case that hold it in place. It has to be adjusted so it will not start in reverse or drive by sliding it on the bolts to the right position.
Welcome to hell. Here's your accordion.

wayne petty

sorry  lack of information.. i could have taken care of that like this..

ADJUSTMENT

Loosen the two switch adjusting screws.

Place the transmission lever in N .

Rotate the switch and insert a No. 43 drill bit, shank end into the gauge pin holes of the switch.

The drill bit must be inserted about 1 / 2 in. (12.7mm) into the three holes.

Tighten the attaching bolts and remove the drill bit.

waynes comment...

see the wire holder on the right side of the switch... without that holder.. the wires going to the switch will break...  they have also been known to short together ..  so when the key is turned on...  the engine starts cranking..   ...

Wayne thanks ..
