Quote from: "38HAULR"We have Bosch alternators in our 89 onwards V6 Commodores [GM] these use the" batt'  plus one terminal for the dash light. and one for the battery sense. Without battery sense connected, the alternator is inoperative.      All the older units just used "batt".  and the "ind" for the dash light.    This Delco in the Buick only had one connection used. The "batt".    You cheered me up Wayne ,there is something worse I could have imported.. This Buick though was described as a "great car". At least the rusted out front qtr vent window frames, I can replace with local 63 Falcon items with slight modification........Frank.

Normally that's the way a Delco works. but there is a regulator, made for boats, marine use, that allows you to run it with just one wire.
Welcome to hell. Here's your accordion.

The problem with the one wire regulator is that you lose the function of the idiot light.
I think one wire alternators need to be revved to "turn on" the regulator and in turn the alternator.
