I ,not so long back got stung with a purchase of one of these from Florida.That.s another story though. After having it sit for some 18mths getting over my disgust ,whilst  I gather some bits and pieces, and plan a major repair attack, trying to build a rod,and deal with life,s  other issues  as time permits. I noticed that the engine [ Alloy V8] was sitting back on a strange angle. I have the front of the vehicle jacked up at the moment for a front brake conversion ,and decided to crawl under to check the trans mount.  What is visible on the underside of the crossmember is a thick rubber donut insulator/washer under the heads of the two trans mount bolts, you can spin them, indicating the bolts are loose or bottomed out,and a hand check gives me the impression that the trans has no mount of any description between it ,and the crossmember.   The front uni angle also tells me that the trans is too low,and solid mounting is not right. My first instinct tells me that the rubber insulators are on the wrong side of the crossmember.  Do these vehicles use  unique seperate mounts for each bolt,or should they have a conventional single block mount ?. Any light shed on this would be appreciated.   Thanks......     Frank

The only one I can recall working on was a 62 Wagon with a factory T10, and it had a standard GM two bolt mount on the trans.

Thanks.  enjenjo.   Looks like this vehicle has had some inept tampering through it,s life. It also has had the generator replaced with a "Delco" alternator, hanging on by the adjustor and one bolt through a bracket off the water pump. This is a "one wire" arrangement ["Batt " only].   It appears to have been charging,as sluggish cranking from lack of use,has been livelier after some idle run time and driveway movement.   I am looking at wiring the original" gen light" up via "IND" using a local Bosch Alternator.  The Delco does have a couple of spade lug connections near the" batt" terminal  ,numbered "1 &2" These were un used, any knowledge on their function?. If I can use one of these for a dash light, then  I will leave the Delco in place, after fixing the bracketry..........Frank.

Yes you can use one for the indicator light. I'll have to check to see which one, don't remember off hand.

i found some mount numbers for the 215 motor 61 to 63

61-63 special series engine mount l&r oem # 1347525 anchor #2218

trans oem # 1349126... no anchor part number

61-63 series 4400, 4600, 4700, 4800
engine l&r  1196936 anchor #2219

trans   oem #only 1349126

hope the numbers help...

i used to have a really great motor mount  catalog set in a 3 ring binder...  i used it a lot at the parts store i was working at....  the district manager came in one day while i was off...  and threw it out... saying that employees are not allowed to store stuff at work...

Thanks guys, I just crawled under with a lead light for closer inspection, there is a set of holes around  2 inches apart that, that once cleaned of grime,  show evidence of having been used, looks like someone has chucked the mount, and just drilled two new holes in the crossmember  to line up directly with the trans mount holes on the box .  And solid mounted the trans, for whatever reason. Not a simple matter of lifting it up and fitting a mount now.The crappy exhaust system passing close under the crossmember has been fitted after this modification and will hit the floor           .       . Anyway back now to my disc brake conversion.........Frank.

Ok, it's terminal one you hook to the light.

Thanks.    #1 to light.     What does #2 actually do?.            .......Frank.

i was looking for pictures of the mount...    i saw a drawing of it over at steelerubber products... they say they can rebuild the original if you have it...  new rubber vulcanized in..   i think egge machine also doe that..

http://www.steelerubber.com/

i did not get a big chance to study it.. but i wonder if a later model transmission mount could be modified to fit...  like a jeep part... anchor 2693
fits 63 to 87 jeep trucks and 72 to 91 jeeps

i went through the catalog pictures and that is as narrow a mount as i could find...  but i do not have the dimensions...

hope this helps...   i really hope that the old mount is under a seat or in the back someplace...

38HAULR

Thanks Wayne.   I will check the dimensions of the bolt spacing.  Enjenjo  mentioned  general GM mounts , we have one of our GM derivatives here that the mounts bolt up to my T350 . So I will try this path.  The only dimension of any concern that could be an issue is the actual height. This vehicle has a split shaft with centre bearing ,so the angles would need to be right.    I would sure like to meet the person who screwed around with this vehicle, being angry at the seller  gives me some spare "rage". Once I get around to replacing the floors, and stripping back paint . I  will fire  up again.   In hindsight I  should have bought the 63 Falcon Vert. At least if it was as bad as the Buick ,local bits are around       .......Frank.

at least you did not get a 63 pontiac with the tempest torque corvair type transaxle. with the torque converter spinning out behind everything...

my aunt had one of those... it actually was a great car... except for all the rust. seems the car was a california car.. but it had never been repainted and must have lived near the beach..

in fact... with the trans mount holes and the crossmember holes lined up..

as a temporary fix... through some of the large chevy motor mount biscuits in there.#2122/2123).. and another with a fender washer below the crossmember with a long bolt stuck through ... with a spacer..(piece of tubing/pipe) as a spacer so you can tighten the bolts and put the biscuits in a pinch like a shock mount or sway bar end link bushing...

If it's not a one wire, the number two terminal is used to sense system voltage to control the regulator.

We have Bosch alternators in our 89 onwards V6 Commodores [GM] these use the" batt'  plus one terminal for the dash light. and one for the battery sense. Without battery sense connected, the alternator is inoperative.      All the older units just used "batt".  and the "ind" for the dash light.    This Delco in the Buick only had one connection used. The "batt".    You cheered me up Wayne ,there is something worse I could have imported.. This Buick though was described as a "great car". At least the rusted out front qtr vent window frames, I can replace with local 63 Falcon items with slight modification........Frank.

i forgot that you were on the other side of the planet...

just a little harder to access american parts from there...

i have found that autozone.com has a lot of older stuff listed... along with some repair info for various mid size models starting in the mid 60's

i have on hand many professional repair manuals back to 55 or so here and i am trying to dig out my really old stuff from my storage locker... its buried deep...
