I have a lead on a ca. 1953 Plymouth sedan and was wondering how much hassle it would be to put a Volare/5th Ave style K member under it? Or, would I be better off going with Ye Olde Mustang II/Fatman's setup?

What's the original tread width? the Volare is right on 60" If that works, should be just a matter of straightening the rails, removing the spring pockets, and building brackets to bolt up the Volare front end.
Welcome to hell. Here's your accordion.

1989 was the last year this front suspension was built. Most parts stores usually have parts for them, but I have to wonder for how much longer. I'm using a Dakota front clip on my F-1 project. The series one rotors are 5 bolt and will swap right onto the spindles(they have been 6-bolt since 90 or 91) Hard to beat coil spring, upper and lower a-arms,with rack and pinion steering.
I got lost in thought, it was unfamiliar territory!

How wide is the Dakota, compared to the Volare ?

how wide are your frame rails? There are a lot of guys doing 03 -07 crown victoria crossmember swaps in ford trucks from 53 0n up. Its almost a bolt in swap .If your frame rails are straight and near the same width you might want to check it out. I did a volare swap in a 53 merc truck 3 yrs ago and this crown vic swap would have been a lot less work.
