Hi Guys
I'm in the middle of building the bench top English wheel in the Tech section.Unfortunately having some difficulty identifying the bearings.
In the UK trying to get them from the part no or bore size is proving difficult .Its the outside dimentions I could do with or whats written on the bearing.
I'm guessing but the self aligning bearing looks to be about 13/8 or 2" and the wheel bearing about 3" or 31/4. An idea of the widths would be good too.

Thanks

Hi
No sorry my bearing supplier has no info on them.
I think in the UK we have different suppiers and manufacturors and its difficult to trace stuff off part no.
If I could get an idea of outside diameter and width I could match something up I know its not crucial but I'm guessing from the photo's at the mo.

Ok, i can give you part numbers for Timken, Bower BCA, Fafnir, SKF, FM,  and many other brands. If you let me know what brands you can get, I can give you a number for that brand.

Bearings in the UK will probably be Metric.

It soesn't matter, most of our bearings are metric too. Do some inch to metric conversions on them some time. For instance, Model A front wheel bearings are metric.

Hiya
If you could give me skf numbers that would be great or an idea of what sizes they are.

Thanks

Ideally, the OD on the upper needs to be around double that of the lower wheel.
If it was larger than double, no problem.

The lower that Enjenjo used was from a 1" ID (25.4mm) self aligning Pillow Block.
The face on the OD is crowned.

For the top, maybe something like 6212-2RS1

52mm OD
25mm ID
18mm wide
Sealed on both sides.

Self aligning Pillow Blocks, the crown on the OD
allows them to pivot in the housing..

The bearings should be available separately.
Worst case, you buy a complete assembly, and take it apart.
I've bought some on ebay, very reasonable.

Hi Guys
So am I right in thinking that both top and bottom bearing should be the same width and the top bearing double the size of the bottom one.

Im trying to get as much info as poss over the weekend so I can hassle my bearing supplier on monday and start sticking it all together.

Thanks

If the top wheel is wider, it doesn't hurt anything.

for bearing selection one might always select items from http://www.grainger.com

to give you a good idea of what is available...

before too much is made of this...

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=95366

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=95367

these lower and upper rollers should take most of the work out of building one...  build it to the size of the rollers you have...

this might even be a great alternate for the screw adjustment...

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=47267

mounted upsidedown that is...

Hi
I'm afraid in Europe we don't have the stuff available that you guys in the states do and shipping and duty make it unfortunaly impossible to buy in the states.
There doesn't seem to be an eqivalent over hear to Harbour freight.I have been reading up on there machines and the mods people have made to improve them with great interest and envy. They seem great value.
I am just making bike stuff at the mo so a small bench top set up should hold me for a while.
Does anybody know where there stuff is made.Wouldn't surprise me to learn that it has crossed the Atlantic......
