Elect. vs. Mech.....

I read the srs articles. If my fan was 2" higher, I'd build a shroud and go for it. I told my wife that depending on what happens, the ac might be shutoff in town. She's pretty receptive now but she's not stuck in traffic melting either. I want my mechanical fan to work but I'll have 9" of core exposed to cover with a shroud. Do any of you have thoughts on whether this is too marginal to try?
